We considered this once before and then got lazy and didn't do it.  Now that we are going to bring a second doodle in and think we need to reconsider and get it done before winter.  I am wondering if any of you have installed one of these home made doggie waste systems...similar to this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if_nHfA93Mk

I have to confess to a lot of guilt about the plastic bags I now use and of course I look to the future and wonder what creatures from other worlds will think of humans when they see how perfectly we have preserved these little poops  in plastic.  Heck, Meg is pretty proud that she does this in the yard and we pick it up and put it in a special place all wrapped up.

Any opinions, especially if you have something similar, would be welcome.

We at least use grocery bags and not new ones, but that does not really address the "preserved in plastic" issue.  this is a good idea, but chances of our getting around to making one of these (much less carrying poop back home) is, sadly, slim...

Carrying it back home is not going to happen here either, she has never gone potty on a walk even though we are prepared for that, if she does go and we are away I am not going to guilt out about using a bag for that.  But at home she goes at least twice a day, sometimes more and adding to the family will double that.  We are country dwellers and have lots of space for this but I notice on some of the videos that they put it right in their flower garden for easy access once it is broken down.

BTW...never, ever, on a vegetable garden.

My neighbors have one, and seem to like it for their three French Bulldogs offerings ! :)

Several years ago DK was selling dog waste gizmos that hooked into the sewer lines. Some people may still have them but I don't know the general consensus.

I LOVE mine!  Here's a video of Clark demonstrating it's awesomeness:

At the time I didn't,t get one because I have a septic system. But now I see you hose the waste down too. That would never do in our climate where I'm thinking about when I need to shut off and drain outside water lines.

Things freeze here too.  But I just fill a bucket and dump it down the drain after each shovel full of poo.  For me even having 1 season where I couldn't use it is worth it.

I sent this link to DH. This is exactly what we need. Thanks Judy for bringing this topic up and Adina for this link.

Can you just take it inside and flush it down your toilet?

I heard doggy poop is not good to flush...no idea what the reason was

Doing a quick google search shows that it is OK to flush dog poop but NOT cat poop.  Interesting!  There are even bags available that are supposedly flushable but waste management companies do not recommend these.

I can't imagine doing that several times a day.  Maybe with one dog if I went out there and caught every poo, but I go out with a shovel once a week or so and shovel several shovelfulls at a time.
