Found something on my doodle...
Hello everyone. So I have a 1 and a half year old goldendoodle. He is 90 lbs. I have noticed for a few months now that his left elbow has some of that reddish brown hair that sometimes dooes get if they are kicking a certain area.. Some have it around the mouth.. I showed it to the vet assistants and they said it is probably just from him lying down and putting pressure on his elbows.. But I wasn't sure that was it.. But he has so much hair and I couldn't see anything really... Well now I just have him a bath and I saw he has a scabby sort of thing on that same elbow.. I cut the hair around it to get a better look.. It is brownish and looks like some part fell off, not sure of it's from the bath and getting it wet.. He doesn't react when I touch it.. Now I'm wondering can dogs even lick their elbow? Is the discolorinf of the fur from it oozing or something? I'll be brining him to the vet tomorrow hopefully, but any ideas of what it could be? It's a callus. Most dogs have these on their elbows. As Midas gets older, they will probably take up most of the joint area. About the size of a 50cent piece.

Do a search on Bing Images using Callus+Dog+Elbow, then select image. You will see all sorts of photos.

It's possible it's also what's known as a hot sot, an infer cited area the doodles get from licking. If so it needs to be treated.

hard to tell from the image but it looks moist. I am going with hot spot as well.

thanks everyone! this photo was taken directly from the bath..i should have said that... he has had it for a while and it hasnt grown or shrunk in size. i dont think i see it on the other elbow though, maybe he favors one side?

Ahh, he had a bath! Okay, well just watch it then to determine if it is a hotspot or just a callus.
