Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ok I've decided to start this thread because there are a lot of issues we will need to address with help Jake adjust to a new life. I'm just going to post here with questions. I've got obedience stuff down I can handle that. But there is alot of other stuff. I'll just post here any maybe one of you wise doodle lovers can help. I can try to post in food, and grooming but so any things are interrelated so I'm going to use this thread as a catch all and if mods want me to separate I can. :)

Issue first and foremost, the diet. We feed one of the foods recommended on here. Jakes current diet (what the owners been feeding him) is dry purina puppy food, and equal parts peas, corn, rice, cooked ground beef and water all mixed together. Okayyyyyyyyy. Iknow how to move a dog from 1 food to another slowly but how in the world do i handle this? Poor Jake has terrible runs! I'm taking him to the vet early this week to check for uti, stool, blood work etc. but how do I begin the transition to my food with all these other ingredients?

Thanks,I'll tackle other issues as we go along. I fear grooming wise he will need a shave. His belly, ears, and legs are horribly matted.

Thanks everyone.

You are so sweet. He is definately a love.

He is beautiful!!!!  And he looks like he's sooooo happy with you!  Hope everything works out medically for this awesome guy and mostly for you!  It would be so hard not to fall in love with Jake!!!

Thanks Karen. Off to read

Wow, what a looker!

Aww Jenn, you and Jake look adorable together. He sure cleans up gorgeous! I admire you for how much you've had going on in your life and still you made room for Jake.  Finn drank a lot of water his first year and then it came right out :) Stress would give him the runs in a heartbeat. He ate a lot of chicken, rice and yogurt but was healthy, overall.Keeping my fingers crossed that you get a good report and just have to deal with the foxtails.

Jenn, I don't know if you are working with a rescue agency or you are doing this all on your own, but if you are doing this on your own, I know DK has helped Doodles before and will again. We did a chip in for a Doodle named Hurley and I would be happy to contribute to a chip in for Jake. He needs to have a good life and make up for his start in life. My two cents, for what it's worth.

Thanks Laurie. The truth is he's tugging on my heart strings so there is a decent chance I won't rehome and we will keep him. The good thing is, jake has a chip and the owner filled out paperwork to transfer it. Thanks for thinking of us. Btw, I love looking at pics of fudge and Vern.
Jen you are a hero.....no matter what....my baby has had astronomical at least to me medical bills in the past few months but we have insurance....so I am hoping now that we submitted claims we will get some back.....

I would for sure be very happy to chip in and help you pay some...I don't have a lot but we have amazingly kind people on here and a little adds up fast. He is beautiful and congratulations on no more chemo for your daughter .....I hope they sang her the " no more chemo song".

You will be in my thoughts and prayers .....I pray Jake doesn't have anything major that can't be fixed....and that is my prayers as I go off to sleep!
Jennifer, I'm starting to follow your story so hugs to you. Grace is doing well even though she did not have a no chemo song. We did do a no chemo dance though!;)

No chemo dance is just as good... There is a song my friend who did Peds Onc always would sing to the kids after their last dose of chemo, It is so precious....

BTW Gracie is my all time favorite name for a girl.. It used to be my nick name years ago but it is a precious name for a little girl...... Please I am serious, if we do some sort of chip in, I would love to help in the small way I can.
