This weekend is Thanksgiving here in Canada - I know that for most of you Thanksgiving is another six weeks away but I thought it would be fun to see what your favourite Thanksgiving traditions are!  I'm having dinner here on Monday and am looking for some different ideas like recipes, centrepieces and just different traditions that we could start!

I'll start by saying that I like hollowing out a small pumpkin and putting in a plant for my tabletop centrepiece - then on Hallowe'en I use the same centrepiece but get small plastic spiders from the dollar store and put pins in them and attach them to the pumpkin for a scarier centrepiece! I used to make one of these for my desk at work also - it was a big hit with clients!

No great ideas but wishing you a happy thanksgiving.

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving !

Hi Wendy, I'm a fellow Canadian so Happy Thanksgiving! Pumpkin soup served in the pumpkin shell has always appealed to me although I've never made it. I know pumpkin pie is the tradition, but if you like I have a really good recipe for a Blueberry Bread Pudding that is just yummy and is good for feeding a small crowd.

Yes please - that sounds good!!!

Here is a link to the recipe, it's actually came from a Canadian Living magazine. :>) If you do make it, make extra sauce. :>)

Okay, definitely making that - sounds great!!!!!  Thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving Donna to you and yours.

I usually spend it over my sister & brother's house with my family. I bring the mashed potatoes & make the gravy & stuffing when I get there. I also bring pineapple stuffing. I make it gluten free bread because I have Celiac disease. The pineapple stuffing is good as a desert as well. I also usually double the recipe to have extra. Very ummy!!

Original recipe makes 5 servings

1/2 cup margarine    4 eggs

1 cup white sugar

1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained (I save the juice to add to make moist)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream margarine and sugar. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the pineapple and bread cubes.
  3. Bake in a 350 degree oven for one hour. Let sit a few minutes to firm up before serving

Hi Kimberly - how much bread cubes and when do you add the pineapple juice?  It sounds good!

Happy Thanksgiving!  My parents will be heading up to the cottage with us next weekend.  A wood fire will be going in the stove, we cook our turkey in the bbq on a beer can, we will likely visit the village nearby for the pumpkin toss contest, take long walks with Gavin, watch baseball playoffs, have a drink with the neighbours, play some euchre and generally chill out.  Looking forward to it.

Playing euchre means winter is here.  We seldom play during the other months.

Euchre at the cottage and euchre at Christmas.  My parents love to play cards!
