Tamara, please do not try the ecollar yourself in this situation. The ecollar is just a tool, not a magic bullet - and a tool that could really mess up your dog if not used correctly. If I were there I would help, but since I am not I think you really need to get a reputable dog trainer involved.
ok good to know ...thx.. I may try the leader or easy walk again ... that seemed to help some ....
I'm known around there is the neighborhood guy that helps everyone teach their dogs to walk nicely on a leash. I'm been through it with many dogs and owners, and almost always the problem isn't a matter of equipment but something less tangible - like attitude, body language, energy, etc. If you can upload a video of the behavior you are talking about maybe I can give you some suggestions.
well she does great with walking until we see people ...dogs..kids.. I can not get her to sit and settle down at all ... she is at level 100....I need to start up my training I have been awful with trhat !! that is why I thought the e collar would get her to look .. listen etc...I try anyting for sure...
My 18 month old Doodle does the same thing, he walks perfectly until we see another dog than he lunges towards it waging his tail and wants to play, he is 70 pounds and hard for me to control even with the no pull harness. He also jumps straight up in the air in excitement and almost like showing off ugh I really don't want to use an E collar even on vibrate so I keep on working with him and its gotten better but with dogs wanting to play he really goes wild. He is not aggressive and very sweet to the other dogs and if its small he lays down to play. My Mojo is such a love bug I would hate to hurt him with a shock but he has hurt my arm and shoulder with his jumping and pulling.
Well, I suppose you could just walk where there are not any people, dogs or kids. :)
I'm glad you are posting this, though, because these are exactly the types of situations where people get into trouble with devices like e-collars. Which then leads anti-e-collar people to freak out the other way and through out the e-collar with the bathwater.
Training your dog isn't something you start or stop, its more like a constant and ever present process. Your dog always learns, whether you want them to or not - so you have to always teach them how you want them to behave. It's a lot like having a small child, just the language they speak is different. Often dog owners that have problems are great "parents" that just need to learn out to speak "dog". Some people are naturally better at it than others, but almost everyone can learn if they want to. I think it's a matter of getting out of the mentality of looking for a quick fix for a particular behavior and more towards having a deeper understanding of how your relationship with your dog works and how you communicate.
You know I love Stephanie's collars F. She's a nice lady too. I appreciate that introduction.
Oops, yes, Shannon Shepherd. I have no idea who Stephanie is.
I like the concept of vibrate but I don't trust it because on mine at least there is a slight delay between pushing the button and that could create timing problems. Also I like being able to adjust the stimulus depending on the situation and whether it is a nick, constant or bump. However many dogs will naturally move in a certain way (towards you or away from you) when they feel the vibrate without any instruction at all - so if that is the case for you then I'm sure it's great.
Yeah I agree.. training is 24 7. I just know with my trainer she had me work on the ..look at me... click and reward thing....it will all get better in time.. I am so glad all of you are here to advise and help us all ! :)
