This time I don't know the answer but that's often the case. Every year around this time hundreds of hickory nuts lay in wait to break my ankles. But this year a batch of giant round green ?nuts have fallen and I see the source. I have taken photos : ) I have an idea but I'm not telling. The picture below are hickory nuts with the big guy on the upper right being Mr. Mystery. . There will be a prize for the winner. I hope she doesn't live in Canada : ) It's hard to ship certain things there.

Update
A Baker's dozen of unhulled walnuts is available for $50 plus shipping. Warning, they weigh a ton. The unhulled nuts smell like citrus.

Okay, lots of responses and the Eastern Black Walnut is my guess too. I declare Ricki and Donna winners since Ricki suggested it and Donna hit the nail on the head. If none of these hits me on the head first,  a special : ) double prize will go to the winners. The first  are mystery seeds purloined from my neighbor, I think that it was a kind of flat flowered iris, very pretty. I don't think I ever took photos of the flower : ( The second will be seeds from my morning glories. The morning glory pods are still maturing so it may be a while. Remind me if I forget.

Thank you and I look forward to receiving my "mystery seeds".  Hopefully they will like Oregon weather. I had an advantage as the house where I grew up had a gigantic (at least it was to me when I was 5 years old) English Walnut tree. It decorated our yard and drive each year with walnuts in husks that looked very similar to yours.

It's amazing how that tree just showed up in your yard. Maybe it wandered away from one of your neighbors.:) It's a stray of sorts.

Well since I never rake flower beds or the borders of my property I get lots of volunteers. Some noxious ones I take out but I let lots of things grow. I have to look over just where this tree is, I remember a small tree I let go years ago.

Good Luck sending Canadians,  Walnuts or seeds.   I think the Moonflower seeds I sent are blooming somewhere along the boarder  :(

She never got them. But, I have a lot more this year too.  Look out Boarder Patrol

Donna got mine I think. But no I am not sending walnuts. Just a few discreet seeds.

Yes, it was a lovely keychain and I did enjoy the delicate white blooms. :>)

Did it bloom really?
Question. Are walnuts dangerous for dogs to eat in this form with the green husk still on?
I don't know but I was wondering about it. Luca loves tennis balls and these look like them. But he doesn't seem interested in them.
Here's the answer.

I guess I need to collect at least the nut hulls not only fir the dogs but for the flower beds

VPI insurance also warns against walnuts:

Personally, I would think that husk would be indigestible, which might be the reason this article mentions obstructions.

All I know is that I will go out soon and pick up those I see. Even as they decay they can inhibit the vegetation around them.
