I am worried about Toby. He's 4 1/2 months old, and is favouring his left hind leg. Particularly on getting up...he doesn't want to put weight on it. Other times he runs and jumps up at the back door on his hind legs. So apparently the pain comes and goes, or he adjusts and deals with it. I can run my hands up and down his leg - I feel no abnormalities, no hot spots, and he doesn't mind it at all. He is growing like a weed - we need to adjust his collar every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks! If it doesn't improve by Monday, I will phone the vet first thing. He's my baby - it kills me that I don't know what's wrong, and can't seem to help. :(
He's also sleeping a lot, and losing teeth like mad. So I guess I want to assume it's some sort of growing pain. I don't know what I'll do if it's something serious.

I sure will let you know. The guys in the house (hubby, two grown boys) are very matter of fact, and tell me it's just growing pains, don't worry so much. But us women, we think with our hearts, not our heads, and I am a worrier. Maybe it will clear up by tomorrow, and I'll know that the guys were right, and I was wrong. I would be quite pleased to be proven wrong in my worrying.
Go with you Mommy gut instincts! Monday - the vet - just to make sure it is nothing other than growing pains. If he is runinng and jumping, then it is probably nothing serious but I am sure you are loosing sleep worrying. Please keep me posted. I have been thinking of him lots since you first posted his soreness. They only have us to do the worrying and I am very good at that part of my job.

Okay Lola did this for like a week or two when she was younger. One minute she would be limping on it, and the next minute she would be running on all 4s. It was weird, but if it doesn't improve I would ask the vet.
I would guess it won't be anything at all except growing pains or he is sleeping on it funny - especially because he can jump up and down on it. But like the others have said, if you are concerned, get it checked out. I had a dog that used to "play" me by picking up a foot and walking on only 3 legs when I was watching her. As soon as I turned my back she would put it down and go play with the other dogs in the yard - the minute I would come outside again she would stop and stare at me and hold her foot up. The first time she did this, I of course brought her in the house and gave her special attention while I checked out her foot. She quickly figured out that it was a good way to get attention!! Eventually she stopped because I figured out her trick. I'm not saying Toby is doing that - just sharing a funny story with you. I'm a firm believer in getting something checked out if I'm not sure what's going on. Good Luck and don't let the guys bully you :-)
"Pano", short for panosteitis, is a bone disease that affects primarily large breed dogs, including GR's & LR's and usually occurs between 6-18 mos. It is believed to have a hereditary component. It is usually self-limiting, and not in any way life-threatening. I have included a link for info on pano, BUT I don't think you should jump to this conclusion...for one thing, Toby doesn't fit the age range. For another, dogs can get all kinds of pulled tendons, bruised muscles, etc., especially if they're very active. I would have a vet examine him before getting yourself upset or giving him pano, LOL!
Here's the link, but as I said, please don't worry. I'll bet he's just fine.
