Yup, it’s used.  (And kinda broken.)  And incredibly AWESOME!

The Hopeless Doodle Addict  trophy has traveled around the world multiple times while visiting tons of awesome doodles and their addict owners.

And now you can have that same trophy forever.  To keep.  Well… there might be a cost to do that.  ;-)

It’s time for our once annual “Support Doodle Kisses” campaign.  We know… we haven’t done one since June of 2011.  We will do it for one day and then you won’t hear about it for another 12 months (or maybe 30 months if our checkered history repeats itself).

There are a few reasons for this fundraiser right now:

  1. We just figured out the PayPal cancels subscriptions when your credit card expires.  So current supporters were dropping off.  When you wrote to us that “I swear… I didn't cancel my subscription!”... you were right.  You didn't.  Your card just expired and PayPal doesn't keep you subscribed with your new card.  D’oh!  So we wanted to get you back on board.

  2. We have some major development costs in the near future.  The platform this site runs on (Ning) is forcing an upgrade on us:  Ning 3.0.  We plan to keep everything that has made DK such a great community.  We will not lose one bit of the amazing content that you have all put in the forum, blogs, picture galleries, etc.  But it’s going to take lots of work on our part and probably more dollars than the big stack we anticipate.

  3. We pledge to keep Doodle Kisses wild and free forever.  But DK runs on money.  We think it’s worth it.  We know you do too.  :-)

So we are running a support campaign for one day this week.  24 hours:  from Thursday noon to Friday noon.  That's this Thursday October 24th. (If you don’t want to hear about it, stay away from DK for that time period.)

We have picked a goal AND a charity to support.  The goal:  $1500 one-time donations and $1000 monthly “subscription” contributions.  We will give 25% of all contributions from that day to the Doodle Rescue Collective.  (We give away 25% anyway, but it’s usually spread out over many rescue organizations.  This will be right off the top, right now, and passed on immediately.)

We will have some fun prizes to give away to contributors (an awesome custom doodle sculpture, t-shirts, mugs, water bottles, etc.) but the BIG prize is the Hopeless Doodle Addict trophy.

We will be giving that away on merit… a contribution auction if you will.  The retired Hopeless Doodle Addict trophy will be given to the person who makes the largest one-time contribution during the 24 hour campaign.  Also included will be a copy of the travel diary written by all the HDA’s so far, plus a mileage certificate signed by Rosco (original HDA travel official).

The other prizes will be given out in a drawing of all contributors (including current monthly contributors) who write in the contest discussion a short comment saying “Why I support DK.”  The contest entry thread will be posted on Thursday (Oct 24) at noon Pacific time.  You will only be able to enter during that 24 hour period.

Make sense?  Ask me any questions you might have (or make snide remarks) in the comments below.

Thanks so much for your continued support of Doodle Kisses.  You make DK the great place that it is.  Thanks!

Adina

Fundraising makes sense and sounds great. BUT the trophy is retired??? I thought it was just in need of repairs or something. Can't we find some way to keep it in circulation (if only as a loan from the owner)? I am getting close to HDA and have been excited about the trophy for such a long time.

The tradition will be carried on in the form of a medal to replace the tattered trophy.

Honestly Jay, letting your career, dogs, home, and personal life prevent you from keeping up with all the news here on DK!  For shame! Here, you can catch up in your spare time.:)

Aw, I see.  I am disappointed but I understand.  Timing is everything.

Fundraising DOES make sense!  But trust me on this--the beloved and original trophy is past the need for repairs.  Laurie and John fixed it, at considerable effort and expense, and somehow from my house to Bonnie's, it came apart again.  It had broken in the past, too.  There will still be an HDA award, but it will be a medallion--just as much of an honor, and much, much easier (and cheaper!) to handle and ship.  You'll be the award winner in no time, Jay--and (wink, wink) the biggest contribution gets the trophy!

I know, believe me I thought of that ... but it's not the same if you buy it.  I just wanted to be part of the original club I guess.  I realize that was a very juvenile response by me, of course.  I'm already over it and I understand about the condition of the trophy.  I agree that replacing with it something more durable is the best idea.

Gee, to think I was planning to make sure my contribution wasn't too big to avoid winning the trophy on a permanent basis : ) I am in the declutter phase of life.

I'd be terrified of getting it again!  lol

F,
You can always win it and then "graciously" gift it to someone you know will be pushed over the edge by the additional clutter.  :-)

Good idea. It reminds me of the infamous hand that Karen was sent or inflatable Bob. The list just goes on : )

LOL!  Yeah... if only the trophy was BIGGER!

I just know Karen would love to have this again!  It could have a place of honor beside the hand. :)
