Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I thought it would be fun to create a discussion where we all share our favourite dog treat recipes, or dog treat recipe books or websites.

I am putting together a dog treat recipe book to raise funds for a dog rescue I am volunteering with. The only problem is this:

I thought maybe if we all share, we all benefit (well, the dogs do) and we are contributing to a good cause. Perhaps once I pull it together, I could share it with DRC if they are interested in using it.

My guys happen to be a fan of anything with Pumpkin or peanut butter in it. Since I'm not a big baker, I often just make the recipe up as I go. Lucky for me dogs are not as picky eaters as people are. Here's a fun recipe that combines their two favourite things together: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/peanut-butter-and-pumpkin-dog-treats/

I would love to hear from the DK community on your favourite recipes (or even fun and interesting store bought treats that we could replicate). The best part for my doodles is that they get to be the taste tester for all the recipes. This makes them two very very happy doodles!

Sounds like something they would find very yummy.  Since I'll retire in 187 days (but who's counting!) I am looking forward to being able to do things like bake their treats. I am putting together a basket of fun things to do in retirement. So far, I have a couple of trashy novels, knitting instructions, instructions to make a Christmas stocking - and will now add the "cookie" recipe for the doods.

Great! glad I could contribute to your reitrement plans :) Good luck with filling that basket. I can't wait to retire - only 25 more years to go!  ;o)

Hi Sheri, my go-to dog biscuit recipe is in this discussion (along with many other treat recipes).  http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/treats-1?groupUrl=dkcookbo...

Thanks BG. It turns out I'm a member of this group. Just forgot it existed. I can't wait to taste test all the recipes.

Ummm don't you be tasting them Sherri!

ha ha. I just meant *test*. Perhaps I was channeling Sophie. :)

I use beef liver, and dehydrate it for about 15 hours so it is very brittle. It's pure food, and I can break off the smallest of pieces and they are thrilled. It keeps in the fridge for a very long time.

I mix plain non fat yogurt with a little bit of peanut butter together and stick it in ice cube trays and freeze it…. Jack loves it.   We also dehydrate beef.   Cooked carrots. Cooked Green Beans.

Our dogs love these peanut butter muffins. I put the batter in mini muffin cups and they are just the right size for a special treat!

PEANUT BUTTER MUFFINS
1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup skim milk
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup Skippy Natural Creamy peanut butter-
This peanut butter has 1/3 less sodium & sugar.
1 tsp baking soda
2 eggs

In a bowl, mix all of the ingredients until blended; then beat the batter for 2 minutes. Fill the muffin cups 3/4 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 18 - 20 minutes. The muffins are completely baked when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let them cool, and then remove them from the pan. Makes approximately 12 muffins.
***For a smaller treat-use mini muffin cups.

Amazing! thanks!

They sound yummy. Enough to share it with them.
