Its not unusual for a dog not to drink when its on a bland diet of chicken/rice. I believe I read that was Jace's diet yesterday? Once you start transitioning him back to dry kibble drinking should start right back up. Its also not uncommon for a dog on a bland diet to not have as much output as kibble.
What & how much has he eaten in the past 24 hours?
There's a very high moisture content in a homecooked bland diet, and not much bulk or residue. That's probably helping to keep him hydrated. If he doesn't poop by tomorrow evening, you might want to add some pumpkin or sweet potatoes to his meals.
Karen, remember when Lucy was on the bland diet of chicken, rice and sweet potato last Fall and she didn't poop for an entire week? We had thought that something might be wrong and took her to the vet for a 2nd visit and nothing at all was wrong. The low residue diet can take a long time (in Lucy's case, a very long time) to process through. That entire time she never took a drink of water, either (another concern of ours that was unwarranted). We did add 1/4 cup of organic, low sodium chicken broth to each of her meals, though.
Yep. I think what's going on with Jace is the same thing.
Emily when I needed Quincy to drink I added a couple of tablespoons of apple juice to his water bowl and that did entice him to drink. You can also add a little extra water in with his bland diet. I hope Jace is back to normal soon.
Owen hasn't had a BM since sometime Wednesday night because of the meds for his flu. I'm content with that. He was pumped full of IV fluids. It's probably okay that he isn't pooping.
That's a good thing, and it will get back to normal with a little time.
