Does anyone have a sweet, mellow Female doodle?

I've always done better with male dogs. I've had females but they have always been somewhat bossy or aloof. With our final doodle on the way I think we will go for a female. Before Jake, I assumed we would get another male. Since we have 2 I don't know about adding a third boy to the mix. Brisby is mellow and although jake is a bit higher energy, he is still on the relaxed happy end (provided) adequate exercise. Would like to hear stories about sweet girls.

Just like kids, they are all different. Throughout my life, I have had a mixture of very best favorites. My last two loves, were both males and I really intended on getting another male this time around. But Enz had different ideas and chose me. She is every bit as sweet and loves to cuddle. And makes the greatest "sighing" sounds when she is being loved on. I have absolutely no regrets.

Thanks Ro. I know we will end up choosing the best temperment but I keep hearing bad stories about having more than two males. Still if the mellow one is a boy. That's probably what we will choose. Just wondering if girls can be mellow. :) thank you for your story.

Enzo is as mellow as they come. Any other dog coming into our home ,would definitely be the Alpha.

Calla joined Luca when he was about 14 months ole and she was 4 months old. I think she is a very sweet, mellow gal and we love her : )

We have had four males at the same time; three males and one female. Honestly it all depends on the temperament of the dogs. Our group of three males and a female was not good. The four males was great. You cannot make the determination based on gender alone.

Our girl is two years old and she is about as mellow as they come!  We did have "puppy madness" and wondered what we got ourselves into with this new adorable Doodle. She chewed on everything that would fit in her mouth, including furniture, plants, shoes, clothing and magazines. So off to training we went and the first stop was the socialization, which she LOVED.  Then came more training and we saw a light in her eyes that showed she wanted to please us.  We also engaged during this time in two-mile walks every day and they proved to be the key to calming her down.  All of a sudden, she was eighteen months old and we were beginning to see a new side of Libby.  She was no longer chewing on things, grabbing things and running and became very affectionate and calmer.   We wonder at times what we did to get such a sweet easy going, laid back dog that just wants to please us most of the time.  She loves to go in the back yard and play fetch and soccer with our granddaughters, but knows when it is time to come in and settle down.  We are retired and maybe that is part of it and she has settled into our way of living, but what ever it is, she is the best dog we could ever ask for and Libby has our hearts!   We have had one male and four females throughout our lives and I think it just depends on the temperament, environment and the breed of the dog.

I think it all boils down to an individual,  male/female is not concrete ruling -  I find in general females are better at 'multi tasking' and take that with a grain of salt. I have had as many as five males, no problem - never more than two females, but again no problem.  

The newcomer needs to be able to accept being low man on the totem - submissive traits and a mellowness will be key regardless of gender.  

Our doodle girl is as sweet as can be! She is mellow, intuitive, tender, sweet, loves everything and everyone, not to mention how incredibly smart she is. She is the singularly most remarkable dog - but she is stubborn and silly, too.  She is mostly the calmest dog ever, at fourteen months there has not been a single day that she has not 'wowed' me and I thank Heaven for the angels guidance to her.    Laughably we were looking for a male - I'm happy I followed my heart and grabbed the little girl with pigtails, but she is quite the Daddy's girl  :)

Finnley (a girl) is both high energy, and mellow as well. At 18 months old, she is excepting of going to bed early, and getting up late. By getting up late, I mean her not me ! Also she love to get cuddled in bed. After she has had enough of love and cuddle time, she gets down and lays on her own bed for the night. She is very good around my mother, who is elderly, and homebound. She will often just sit on the couch next to her, laying her head on my mother's lap. She is great riding in a car and we have taken her on many long car trips with no problems at all. She love all other dogs. Maybe it's just Finnley, or maybe the breed, or being female. I don't know, but I wouldn't trade for her anything.

We are currently a household with 8 dogs. 1 belongs to my mother who now lives with us, 1 belongs to my daughter (she and her hubby are deployed in GITMO right now) and 6 belong to us. We have 4 dachshunds - 2 males, 2 females. And then finally - our 2 male doodles. It sounds like it would be a wild and crazy place, but is actually very calm. The only "tiffs" that we have is between the only 2 females that we have. One is an alpha, and the other is an "alpha-want a-be." About 3 years ago, our golden retriever sweetheart died. She was the biggest calming influence in the house and never had a bad day. So - all of this to say - I agree with the other posts - it totally depends on the personality of the individual dogs.

Like others I do believe it is the dog not the sex that determines their personalities.

That being said Trixie is the mellowest dog I have ever had...We call her Lazy- LOL

(I have only had female dogs -she is my 5th-but 1st doodle)

 

This is the 1st dog we have raised when kids/teens were not living in the house...(though they visit almost daily- to come see Trixie!) I do think that may have something to do with how laid back she is

 

[Miss Ellie]

Even at the mere age of 5 months old, our Ellie is very sweet & mellow.  She is just content to be wherever we are, snuggle on the couch or just hang out by our feet. She goes everywhere with us, apple picking, pumpkin patch, to the arena to watch her brother play hockey, car rides and so much more.  Now when she is with another dog playing, it is quite a different story...she is very much puppy with lots of puppy energy and plays till her hearts content.  I have always had male dogs and at one time would never have even considered a female...but those days are gone...I love having my little girl...gender doesn't really matter...what matters most is the dog that captures your heart and soul...boy or girl!

[Angie, Hudson and Lily]

When we added a second, we were planning on getting a male. When we went to pick the puppy, we found a male we liked, but also wanted to see the females. One of the little girl pups was just so sweet and seemed a bit calmer than the male pup. We decided to change our minds and get the female. Lily is very sweet, calm and mellow. One of her favorite past times is snoozing on the couch while laying on her back, legs up in the air. :)
