I spent yesterday getting things ready for Stew's (Stewart) arrival. I set up the placemat & food bowls, poochie bells, crate, dog bed. As I was opening the box with the crate in it, my exacto knife missed the cardboard & I sliced the top of my thigh.

Needless to say, I pretty much freaked out. I've never had anything happen, no major accidents, falls, never broken a bone, never even been to a hospital aside from 1 hour in an ER years ago when I had a bad flu & needed fluids. A good friend of mine who is a doctor came over, cleaned it & applied some steri strips. So, today I've been very careful, I slept on my couch last night with my leg flat & I've pretty much stayed there today. I got a little paranoid, LOL, since nothing really happens to me!

I'm a little nervous that it won't be totally healed by Friday, but when I get to work tomorrow, I'll have our nurses & doc look at it.

SO after this experience, which wasn't major & I still freaked out, I bought Pet Plan insurance today!! I can only imagine how I'd be if something happened to my pup that I've waited for, for so long! It'll be effective by the end of November. Now I have to hope nothing happens between Friday Nov. 22nd & Sun Dec 1st.

On that note, I noticed 2 dogs last week pee by the mulch in front of my apt (there is a fence around the mulched area, so they peed on the fence). Still close for comfort! I'm planning on disinfecting the area with bleach as a precaution before I bring Stew home. At least the bleach won't have a killing effect on concrete & mulch, so they'll still look the same! Anything to be proactive against giardia & any other parasites, even though the breeder had done multiple dewormings already.

I can't begin to say how much this site has prepared me for Stew's arrival on Friday!

I am very sorry to hear of your accident and I hope you heal quickly. I wonder why your insurance won't go into effect immediately?

I think we had a waiting period of one month. I could be wrong, but it did not go into effect immediately.

My insurance didn't got into effect immediately either. I waited about a month. They said if I wanted it sooner I would have to pay a month in advance. I have vpi.
I hope you feel bette.
Thanks F! My dad thinks I overreacted about the cut, but I figure it doesn't hurt to be safe rather than sorry. Maybe being pretty immobile will just speed up healing. That's what I'm hoping anyway!

The insurance t goes into effect immediately tomorrow for any accidents, but there is a 14 day waiting period for illnesses. That's what I meant about hoping the pup doesn't contract a parasite, as they're common. I don't expect anything else to be found during any of the exam at the first vet visits.
Yikes! Hoping you heal quickly. Have to be in tip top shape for the new furkid! ;)

Sorry to hear you had an accident.  That sounds like something I might do!  Looking forward to seeing photos of your little Stew!

Heal quickly so you can enjoy your little one to the fullest. You are very wise to get pet insurance right away! Good job.

Sorry, Jess, on your unfortunate accident... I can understand your being paranoid after that :) If you have some on hand, try taking zinc supplements. I've read that helps in healing wounds.

Good idea to get pet insurance... sooner is better than later!

Hope you feel better soon...

Thanks everyone! It wasn't deep, was a clean cut (no rough edges of the skin) & I didn't need stitches. I figured i'd take it as easy as possible today just to speed everything up! I have Arnica on hand, so I'll take some this week.

It's funny-my mom was surprised that I got worked up over cutting myself with an exacto knife. In her words, you're 24 & they sell them in the kid's craft sections. But, they're clearly sharp! Maybe I'll need to think of a better story, make myself seem tougher. LOL!

Your mom sounds like me. I always tell my girls to suffer in silence :)

Ouch, former safety coordinator here and those knives a really a big safety issue, in future always slice AWAY from your body.  Hope you are doing much better today.  Sounds like you are well prepared for your little one, can't wait to see him.

Sorry about your accident. Hope you heal quickly. Yes, I agree...pet insurance is a must. Good luck with Stew!
