What a cutie! puppyhood! just keep smilin'! his adorableness will go a long way!
Sooo how did the night go?
so cute! A few things to add to the advice--and I didn't read thru every answer so forgive me if someone said this...
First, don't wait until bedtime to use the crate! You should feed Stewart in there, give him treats, new toys, etc in his crate--it should become his little home so that bedtime is not so scary. Also a blanket over the top is useful at sleep times. It makes it more den-like. If he is playing and has gone potty and starts to lose energy, pop him in his crate to fall asleep--and if you know his needs have been met, ignore the crying--tell everyone to act like they are deaf--no eye contact, no words, nothing and he will soon learn that crying is not going to get him out of the crate. This will make bedtime much easier.
If he is still having a rough time settling down at night, sit near the crate silently with your back to him until he nods off, then sneak away--also, some people love the "snuggle puppy" which acts like a littermate for a new pup and smooths the transition. The sell them online.
Just looked at some responses--sorry to repeat things and glad it is going well so far!
Welcome home, Stewart! He is just darling!
