Stew was doing so well tonight! Went into crate at 11 after pee/poop. Ate dinner at 7 pm. Stirred a little at 1, put my hand in the crate & he fell asleep again. Then, it's 2:55 & it sounds like Stew is eating something...I went to look in his crate & on top of the snuggle puppy there was remnants of what I'm assuming was vomit & he's licking the puppy. He looked up at me quietly, so I took him outside, he peed. Stepped I it, so I did my best to wipe his paw, soak up any urine. Then back into the crate, he was restless-walking in & out, removing the puppy, sitting himself in crate, back out to get snuggle puppy on the floor, he also vigorously licked & chewed the urine paw. He finally settled down & has been asleep for 10 minutes on my lap siting outside crate.

As I was trying to get him to settle down, I was falling back asleep too! Hopefully when I put him back in, he just goes back to sleep! The only thing he's eaten was his kibble & a few zuke's treats (I break up even the tiny ones into 2 when I was treating for potty on command.

Was this a fluke, one time thing? I have to say it really grossd me out & I had to keep from gagging. I'm sensitive to loud noises & smells, I also have a horrible gag reflex.

It's almost 4 am here, Stew is sleeping back in crate.

Update: Stew basically slept from 11 pm until 7 am, except the waking up from 2:55 until 3:40, which is only 45 minutes and he never cried once. When I got him at 3:40 to put him back in the crate, I put him on the ground to grab the blanket I had covering the crate and he walked in himself!

I just got him out for the day & noticed that it looks like a piece of the crate by one of the latches is missing. It's a flat edge so it could be how it's supposed to look, but it seems odd to me. I attached a picture.

When I first looked at your picture, I thought you were right, it did seem to be missing the curved piece that latches it into place. Then I checked both of my crates, one looks just like yours with a straight edge on each of the clasps, while the other has a curved piece. Quite honestly, the one with the curved piece is a little more fiddly to close.
Skeet used to throw up at night. It was suggested to me in the food group to feed him a small portion of his daily food right at bedtime and that has stopped the problem. Also changing him to a grain free limited ingredient food made a huge difference. Skeeter is an adult dog so might ask the puppy group or food group about this if it continues. Maybe it is just a one time thing.
It's all good ;)
Many times those new tummies burp up food.
Dogs eat it. Yum. Not. But that's a dog thing
I just realized that when he ate his dinner, he ate most of the portion-more than any other meal yet, so maybe that was it? He's eating 1/3 cup 3 times a day,

Right now I'm struggling to get the divider back in place! I couldn't fit all hooks on the sides, it's like its short. The whole crate looks a little bent, so I was hoping he divider would fit correctly.

Our pup had a few middle of the night vomits when he was in his rapid-growing phase around 4-5 months old.  Thanks to advice in the food group we gave him a "snack" about an hour before bedtime.  We just reserved part of his dinner to help his tummy stay full during the night.  Maybe give that a shot?  I feel for you, I have a sensitive gag reflex too!

Puppies vomit and do try to eat the vomit if they can. Unless it happens very frequently ignore it. I don't think this vomiting is likely the vomiting seen when a puppy has't eaten for many hours and I would not change his feeding scheduleAlso licking to clean themselves is normal. Urine is sterile when passed unless there is a infection, licking it off themselves won't hurt. The crate is fine. Relax a bit.

LOL...I would agree.  RELAX!  You're going to give yourself an ulcer!  This is just the beginning of puppies doing "gross" things.   It's all part of being a Puppy (dog) Mom.  You'll be cleaning his little butt like a trooper in no time at all!  ;)

Jess, I too was grossed out by the fact that Bella ate her regurgitated food. She has a queasy stomach in the car, and did this on the way home from the airport when I got her. UNTIL.......a few days later I witnessed her eating her own poop. Cured the queasy over eating vomit real fast. Ro is right, steel yourself for more puppy grossness!! Lets see....bird poop, chewing gum, garbage if they can get into it, lizards or birds if they can catch them, bugs......I think you get the picture. Enjoy your little cutie !
