Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I posted on the "Most Recent page" and have been scouring here for some additional info. What I am Concerned about is..,it's early in the a.m. Before I can get to a store & actually cook some chicken...if I feed DerbyDoodle another helping of the Hills brand..it will be her 2 nd serving..by vets orders she should get fed this ( I am Learning CRAP) twice a day can it be harmful to hold her off till I can get the real food in her or just let her have this one additional helping till her 2 nd meal later in the evening.
I making an assumption the Rice in this equation is NOT anything instant or highly processed...just plain, simple home cooked food. Getting very frustrated that Vets prescribe what is considered really bad food for the Doods!!
I do want to add she was fine all thru the nite ..no accidents...but no stools either

One cup of cooked white meat chicken or one cup of white rice each contains 200 calories.

Calorie requirements for dogs vary with age and weight. Puppies need more calories per lb than adult dogs. Small dogs need more calories per lb than large dogs. For adult dogs, calorie requirements usually range between 15 and 25 calories per lb. Growing puppies need much more, sometimes double that.

For large or very ill dogs, you sometimes have to feed them more often than twice a day, because the volume of food required on a chicken/rice diet is so large. Two cups of chicken & rice equals 400 calories, or one cup of most dog foods. If you have a dog who requires 1600 calories per day, like mine, it's better to give them 2 cups of food 4 times a day than 4 cups of food twice a day, especially when they're ill.

Wow - thanks as always Karen!  Interesting to see the calorie difference between the different categories (pup vs neutered vs intact).
