FHO Surgery (Femoral Head Ostectomy)

Has anyone's doodle had to have FHO surgery? My Goldendoodle Dazi is almost 7 months old and has been having trouble. I took her to the vet and the Dr did xrays and she has severe hip dyplasia. She is having FHO surgery on the right hip wednesday. The surgeon says this is the best thing for her instead of a full hip replacement. She is in a lot of pain and I hope this is going to help her. She will have the left side done after she has healed up from the right side. I sick with worry and wondering if anyone else has gone through this and how is the recovery for them. I hate this for my baby. I cant stand to see her in pain.

Just reading through all of this now and so sad that your baby has to endure this pain but so thankful that she is having this important surgery which will hopefully give her many pain free years ahead.
I think we need to revise our advise for new owners and be very clear that a) they make sure to see the health certs of both parents and b) that vet fees are covered in the health guarantee with no stipulations regarding the timing of spay/neuter and no offering to swap for a new puppy.
Breeders know full well that the minute we pick up "our" puppy we bond and I can't remember ever hearing of someone returning a dog to a breeder and swapping it for a new one ( not on DK anyway)

Hi Everyone,   Just wanted to give an update on Dazi.  She had a checkup yesterday and the Dr said she is doing pretty good.  He thinks she is on track with her progress but was concerned a little bit that she seems to still have some discomfort and pain.   He put her back on an imflamatory for two weeks to see if that helps her and then we will go back to see him for another checkup.    He says that she really didnt get to baby her first hip and leg from the first surgery because her other hip was causing her so much pain so really we are re-habing both legs at the same time now and building her strength back up.  But I can say she is coming along.  We walk a couple times everyday and she can now go up our little hill and not have to rest at the top.  Her Dr said we had to do stairs three times a day.  At first I had to put a leash on her and help her get up the steps and now she just flies up them herself.  She looks so proud of herself when she makes it up there on her own.  :)  

She is now wanting to play more and run.  She still bunny hops when she runs but she is running and happy.   So hopefully soon she will have no more pain and running like crazy being a puppy.     Everyone at the Surgeons office comes running when they see Dazi to get their loves from her.  They say she is the sweetest baby ever.  She loves to snuggle.  That makes me happy.

Hello Everyone!  I just wanted to let everyone know how good my Dazi Doodle is doing now.  She is pain free and making up for all the time she wasnt able to be a puppy.  :)    I am so happy.   I get teary just watching her play and run around and having such a good time without any pain.  Her legs do get tired after playing so hard but we are still in the process of rehabbing her legs and building her muscles up and going further on our walks.  But she is doing so much better now.  Thank you again everybody for all your support and prayers while we went through all of this.  It was a long hard road but it is now paying off and Dazi can run and play with no pain.  It is truly wonderful.
