My dogs are suddenly starving...

My dogs (all 4 of them) have been on Adult Orijen for many many months. I just got a new bag and I put it in my airtight container like I always do. It is packaged by weight, I get that, so I understand how sometimes my container won't quite shut, and other times it does. This time I have food left in the bag because it didn't even come close to fitting. Anyway, I was thrilled and figured - bonus food!!! Well, my dogs are STARVING since I opened this new bag. I am starting to wonder about it. I know my question is crazy, but I see no reason why quantities all four dogs have been getting would not be satisfying for all four dogs now. Any thoughts on this or do I need to drink more coffee and get more sleep because I am crazy  :)

There's no formula change of which I'm aware. I have no idea why there would be more food in the bag than usual. 

What is making you think that the dogs are starving? JD is always more enthusiastic about eating when I open a new bag of food; is it that, or something else?

You might try contacting Orijen, but I'm not sure they will have any explanation for it either.

I feel like they are starving because one is sleeping by the pantry where treats are kept. One keeps begging for food from me (more than normal) and one has been jumping on me trying to grab food. My other one is just happy for food at meal time. The past several days I have asked my husband if we forgot to feed the dogs!

Their formula hasn't changed since February. She suggested possibly seasonal and since it is colder they are bulking up ;) I'll just feed them a bit more.

Carla, that is what the lady suggested! I was happy to hear that and I told her I must be a seasonal creature too and I am bulking up as well!

I don't know about your dogs but at my house we go through this every winter. My DH and I have a standing joke about the "kids eating us out of house and home" when the weather turns cooler. LOL!  Maybe that is part of it?

By any chance, did they get extra "treats" or tidbits last week for Thanksgiving?

Karen, No, not people food but they did get a few extra big bones. Ok, well maybe a spoonful of mashed potatoes :)

I just thought people might have been giving them "tastes" of Thanksgiving dinner, lol. It doesn't take much for them to learn to beg. You give a dog one scrap from your plate one time, and he'll be sitting next to you at every meal for the rest of his life. :)

Gavin's appetite increases when the weather gets colder.  Also he has been eating so much better since I started giving him EPO with his meals.  Not sure why that is.

Camus is like Gavin.  When the weather gets cooler his appetite increases.  It is tough because he get less exercise due t it getting dark so early, so I am not inclined to let him have more to eat.
