Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello Midas is almost 2 year old goldendoodle. Last Sunday we took him for the first time to this indoor dog park. He played for about a half hour and then some dogs weren't so nice so we left. Then we went to the outdoor dog park we always go to and played there for a while. He was fine all week. Then yesterday morning I drove him to the groomers and as soon as he got out of the car he got very excited, pulled a little (always does) no more then usual. And I started to hear a coughing hacking sort of noise. Not sure if I'm describing it well. Then he calmed down and it stopped, then the groomer came out and he got excited again and it started happening again, then he calmed down and it stopped. He came home from groomer was perfect. Then my friend came over later on and he got excited and it happened again, and then again when I came in later that night and when my husband came in and then it stopped. He is eating and acting normal playing running normal stuff. So last night was fine and we went to bed, this morning about 6/7 I woke up to him doing it again. He wasn't excite because he was just waking up.. It went on for about a minute. He has done it a few more times this morning. I'm wondering if he really could have gotten kennel cough that quick at the dog park, and he is up to date on shots I heard it doesn't prevent only lessens the risk of getting kennel cough. I'm also concerned about it being tracheal collapse, I don't know how to tell the difference. I'm worried because my husband left to plow snow and the roads are getting bad by m, I'm not sure I can get him to the vet today. Any advice experiences or maybe what it sounds like? anything would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

That foamy spit stuff is what my dogs did as well. The Vet did not put them on an antibiotic; he said their immune system would clear it and it did. He put my neighbors dog on an antihistamine/steroid combination, as he was much sicker than mine were. My dogs did fine on the Robitussin children's cough syrup without any additional ingredients. They sounded like barking seals or a child with croup. It cleared in about a week..Webber is about 47# and I gave him just a capful a couple of times a day.
Hope Midas is better today!
I think it is considerate, not rude, to call and inform them. I hope he feels better soon :( It is so stressful when our doggies are sick.
Hoping for a speedy recovery for Midas and especially your dad.
UPDATE! dads coming home at 6 today! he had another angiogram and they gave him 2 more stents in his arteries..so hopefully he will be feeling better soon! thanks for your prayers! also its confirmed that the indoor dog park was where Midas got kennel cough.. several dogs got it from being there that day.. so we are continuing antibiocs and Benadryl.. I cant give him the robatussin because its just so many syringe fulls and he hates it and I feel like it soo much to shoot down his throat... also I am feeling like im getting sick now.. :(
So happy for you, that your Dad is able to come home today! WhooooHooooo!!!!!!!
Hoping Midas continues on his road to recovery.....And YOU, YOU, take care of yourself! Feel better soon. !
