Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Derby previously was struggling with pudding like stools.
DerbyDoodle has been on Primal Chicken, which I rehydrate for almost 2 wks.
DerbyDoodle is 11.5 mo & 10.5 lb Petite golden doodle
(( chix & rice / chix & sweet pot. did not resolve her problem))

She was tested for parasites twice...completely negative. After a almost 10-12 day period on Metrod & ProviatolDC ( which I still give her, but not the Metrod) she is producing formed stools...soft to the touch, but definitely formed & the amount is very small. Is the amount of the stool a problem? I feel the output is equal to her intake... The manufacturer rec's 2 biscuit/puffs Twice a day...A major difference from when she was on the Acana...( 1/2C 2X daily). ..she was a stool generator then. I'm giving her apprx 2.5 pieces twice a day. I would feel comfortable after a month of formed stools to either add some more fiber or whatever else might be appropriate. I ordered 4 bags of the Primal from Amazon..to be stocked up...I guess when they are done it would be advisable to change up the variety. Should I expect a change in anything when the variety is added?

I'm happy to see her progress b/c for a while there she wasn't making any. She had been on Acana from day one ....I'm thinking she either picked up something on her visit to NYC/was stressed from the trip.. I would normally ask her Dr. All these questions, but I've been told many times here they are clueless on dog nutrition et al. So, I await the wisdom I can receive from this group...thanks for the help....I've never been this stymied before on an issue like this, but it don't like what the Dr is pushing" & feel this is a much safer place for the info I need. The holistic pet store I feel gave me a good direction to follow..on the dehydrated raw....but as Karen has warned...even as knowledgeable as the person was...she still may be only an informed clerk...although I do doubt that I will check it out...she was very impressive! Sorry for the long winded post...hope everyone enjoys a pleasant holiday today!

No, I can look this up myself on the Primal website. I'm asking what specific product this is? Primal makes several different lines.

Primal Freeze Dried formula chicken nuggets

Well, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. Personally, if she's doing well with the current food & probiotics, I would leave well enough alone and stop looking for another food. Variety is nice, but for dogs with sensitive stomachs, it's best to stick with what is simple and what works.

I also think it's a mistake to follow advice on health issues from a variety of sources. That can't help but result in confusion. If you feel that the store clerk is knowledgable and giving you good advice, there's really no need to look for other different advice, right?

If Derby's GI issues return, I would consult an internist for further testing. Hope that won't be necessary.
