New puppy likes to go to another room and sleep by himself.

Hi, our puppy did not like the crate the 1st night he came home, actually I could not handle the whining . I tried to put him in bed with my has bund and I and he didn't like that either. So I set up a little den for him between my bed and the wall, and with the night stand and his bed pillow it's like a cave without being covered. He loves it and sleeps like a baby. We live in a ranch house so we are on one floor and every time he wants to nap he goes to the bedroom and lays in his space. I am okay with this however never had a dog do this and just want to make sure he stays social. Is this okay for him to want to be alone when napping? Now, he does want to be with us constantly when he is awake and doing a fantastic job potty training, loves to play/rough house with Elroy and overall a fantastic puppy. I just want to make sure he doesn't become a social dog... Hope this makes sense, I am just a nervous new mommy.

This sounds fine to me. When Luca was a puppy he loved to nap alongside/behind the toilet. Luca is too social with people sometimes : )

Sounds like he is getting plenty of interaction with his people and Elroy, with no signs of anxiety or fears, so there is nothing wrong with him wanting his own space to sleep. Youve made a place where he can rest and feels safe, and thats a good thing. It will change as time goes on. THey all seem to develop different likes and habits as they get more used to their new homes and the house routines. Good luck and you figured out what would work very nicely it seems.

I don't see that as any problem.  My goldendoodle likes to sleep on the cool tiles and he scrambles the rugs in the bathroom at night to get everything adjusted so he can sleep on the tiles.  Sometimes, he uses a scrambled rug as his pillow.  As long as they are house trained, I let them go wherever they want.  They usually take a turn on the leather couches at least once a night, and Harpo comes onto the bed to keep me warm in the early morning, but otherwise you could find them anywhere.  If they need to go outside at night, they come up to the bed and shake.  We know that means they want to go out.  Harpo always comes and shakes for Groucho too, and when we get up, Groucho is standing at the door.  Harpo is his little messenger.

It sounds like you have a very wise pup. He doesn't need to be put in a special space to quiet him, instead he is quieting himself. Nice!

Fudge used to go down our basement and lay in our sunroom under an antique bed we have down there. Even now she loves to go back to our room and take a quiet nap. I think this is a great thing. Neither of my dogs are velcro dogs and sleep in other rooms when I am busy. I think this is fine!

Elroy is so cute!

We purposely didn't put Riley's crate in our room. We work outside the home so we wanted her to learn to be ok on her own. My husband slept on the coach near her crate at first. She still follows us everywhere and now sleeps on the floor by our bed by her choice. She will nap all over the house but it is usually tucked up against something. The first week home, she napped with her face IN my husband's shoe...which is 10 years old so it must smell horrible!
