HI everyone, I am remodelling my house to ADA standards as I am building a center for training service dogs for disabled people. I don't have much hair (I use the dog clippers on it) but I'm ready to pull out what hair I have. Contractors, things screwed up, drainage problems money with wings eeeeeeeeeeekkkk!!!!! I'm going crazy. I will spare you the details as they are too agravating to write or to read. I need a forum for advice, commiseration, consolation & sharing. Any suggestions? Thanks, I'm so discouraged right now. I don't know if my lifetime is long enough to accomplish it. I feel like running away. But both of your posts have given me the chutzpah to put my foot down today. I'm not paying one more cent without a new contract that spells out exactly what was discussed in the first place & then left out of the contract. Not one more change order! not one more cent! Foot down! Hear stamping foot! THanks everyone for your support. Puppy love from Joy & furry folk
We did a giant remodel when my husband retired. He wanted to make the old garage into a woodshop and build a new garage and laundry room. We were very lucky as my husband has a contractor's license, so we were able to build exactly what we wanted. My need? A big room that could accomodate my dogs. Actually the laundry room is probably the most used room in the house. We have a dog batheing area and a grooming area. The dogs have never been in the house for their baths or grooming, but the little sink and counter area in the old garage was not doing it. Also, our dogs are big, 85 and 105 pounds, so we have a ramp for them to enter the dog bath. Works for us. Take your time and do all the design work that you can. Sometimes contractors and architects are just not aware of exactly what you need. It is worth it to put all the time into it now, rather than wanting to make corrections later. Good luck. It really is an adventure.
