I'm sure there are other discussions on this, but could not find one that talked about age where the ..umm...red rocket (pee-wee) makes an appearance? I think I saw a little glimpse today with Brooks..he's only 4 months old. I kinda freaked out but tried not to make a big deal about it..Mommy just wants her baby foreeeever..and this means he's getting older! Anyone else remember time frame when the red rocket makes an appearance? Should I expect this to happen more often? Yikes..this first time mommy is having a hard time!

hahaha! our little guy will be 4 months on saturday, and we've been seeing his little red lipstick on a daily basis for the past week when he gets really excited during playtime...totally normal.
Murphy is almost 15 months old. I have never seen his (penis) out ever! A matter of fact his package is very small almost unnoticable when he rolls on his back. I think it was because he was neutered at 6 months. I was really concerned about getting him neutered too early because I wanted to be sure he grew properly and I was told by people I trusted that he needed the hormones for those important first 6 months of growing but as soon as he hit the 6 mo mark he was off to be clipped! I am so glad we did it that way! It sounds like Brooks is advanced in the excitement department!
I have never seen Jackdoodle's either, and he is also very, very "underendowed". But he wasn't neutered until he was almost 14 months old!
Well, that blows a hole in my theory. (*smile*)
What a fascinating topic. Actually I had sort of wondered if neutering Oski earlier (just over 4 months) was why he was "underendowed" but perhaps it's a doodle thing?

BTW I think Oski started pulling out his lipstick around 3-4 months as well--mainly when he was excited, especially during playtime.
ha ha! Totally normal, but I was also not too thrilled when Rosco started pulling out his lipstick!
I noticed it happened most often while we were obedience training... particularly when I put him in a sit stay. I guess he just likes dominant babes ;-)
if and when it pops out now, I tell him to lie down and that usually fixes it.
LIPSTICK!! I'm chuckling over this one - sorry, never heard that term before. Hudson has been showing his off for a very long time - he is neutered and he still likes to "cool it off". He'll just sit on my footstool and show it to me very proudly.

Adina - like yourself, I usually just tell him to lay down or I push him off the footstool and he starts doing something else. He is a humpy boy though - loves his big dog bed :-) The poor male species - they are always looking for love or showing off. I am sure Hudson would own a muscle car if he could drive!!!
There is a dog in our class that does it everytime we practice the sit-stay!!! (and we are up to a 8 minute stay so that is quite a long time for us to see the lipstick!!). Mine only pops his out when he is hot!
YOURS??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
ROFL...
Oh GOOD!!! He is not neutered yet...in fact, his male parts have not dropped yet..so, I'm kinda surprised he's getting so aroused!!! I figured it was normal and knew it would happen eventually, but I thought 4 months was kinda young...thanks for the morale support! :))))
So....your dog's testicles haven't dropped yet? Toby has one down, one up. I have been told it could still happen, but may not before he's neutered. The vet wants us to wait until he's 8 months old, unless he gets obnoxious before then, to see if things will change. If not it's a more involved surgery, I hear.
