Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Spouse and I keep going back and forth on what size labradoodle we should get.  We want something big enough that can keep up with the kids and do outdoor activities, but no so big where he/she would not fit nicely into car or on bed.  We have seen alot of the 20 lb doodles and we want something a little bigger but again not too big. We are currently looking at something around 40-45lb and 20-23 but worried about this being too large.  Can anyone that has something around this size give me pro's and cons?

My boy doodle, Bexter, is 40 pounds.  I LOVE his size.  I can still pick him up if needed (or wanted:).  This size is easier to bathe than my 60 pound girl dog.  Also, Bexter fits nicely in a car just fine.  We can take him places and he plays well with all kids. I LOVE the size.  I agree with everybody to go for a good breeder.  Bexter is red and he Is very well tempered.  I visited both parents and loved them.  I also visited the pups in the litter more than once.  He was always very interested in me, didn't ever cry or was fussy like some of them, and he let me flip him on his back to rub his belly every time.  I read that this indicates a more submissive dog.  You may not be able to guarantee/predict size or temperament, but that to me, is not an excuse to not at least do your best to try.  Bottom line:  You WILL LOVE your doodle!
