Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I see many of you listen like I expect my new pup to.  At least at the start.  Name's Gary.  I'm new to the forum and to the doodle breed.  My wife and I were looking for a support group I suppose you can call it for when we have questions.  We get our pup Brut on Jan 29th.  He's an F1 Goldendoodle.  I had a Cairn Terrier as a kid and my wife has never had a dog.  Right now we are just looking to get off to a good start.  I'm looking for information on what to feed as a pup and adult.  Where people get their toys and beds and training treats.  Basically any and all information is welcome.

See ya round!

Welcome! I see you got a lot of good advise already! Did anyone mention the search feature in the upper right hand corner? Great to use to zone in on specific topics you might need info on! Good luck!

I wouldn't sweat the bed thing! We've got them upstairs, downstairs. Some come with washable covers, some don't and after time and dirt set in, you can toss it and get another anyway! Places like Homegoods or Marshalls carry some really nice cushy ones at a great price, worth checking out. And then Brut might have his opinion on what he likes too! I know I've brought one or two home that were returned right away because apparently they just didn't pass the doodle test! Where you put the beds matters too. Brut will want to lay where he can see you, be near you. Find a good spot! Also, our breeder gave us a puppy bed with each of our puppies and it worked out great because it was something they were already comfortable with... just a thought, mbut maybe your breeder does something similar.

Make sure you like the bed because your doodle will probably be in your bed and if you don't like that you will be on the doodle's bed!  :)

Welcome!

lol! true!

Welcome Gary and Brut.  Congrats on getting a doodle!  Here are a couple things not to UnderEstim8:

- the  amount of exercise they need

- the amount of training they need

- how smart they are

- how strong your bond will be :)

Good luck.

On the bed issue:  I would buy the big one and let him grow into it.  I have a variety of beds though.  Pretty much one in each room.  Gavin has been trained from a young age that he is expected to follow the people from room to room (important to provide optimal supervision early on) and it was handy to have a "spot" for him to settle in each room.

LOL! Congrats on the new puppy!

I swear I listened and I did not open this discussion :) Welcome!

I recommend anything that is grain free. No soy, corn or wheat because these can cause skin allergies and corn is usually the culprit and most grocery store dog food is FULL of corn. The #1 ingredient for most. I recommend Taste of the Wild, Canidea and Blue. Good luck with your new puppy and your title WORKS! LOL!

Please check the Food Group's Recommended Brands List. There is more to it than just grain-free formulas. You also have to look at the company that makes it and the sourcing of the ingredients. We have done that research for you. None of the brands on our recommended list contain corn, wheat, other fillers, artificial preservatives or colorings, etc. and all contain ingredients sourced from North America.

We listen very well, don't we?  Or is it just that curious minds want to know?    Hmmmm, I choose the latter.  THis is a great place for doodle support.

Welcome.  Joining the groups mentioned will really give you a good start.

I am very pleased to know you dont expect so much from your baby pup.  So many do. They think the perfect dog is born, not made.    Great start already  :)
