Since I was feeling a little sorry for myself, me at home with a bug and Boris awaiting surgery I thought I would treat myself to an early Christmas present. I have ordered a blaster which has three speeds and is not too loud. I am going to do a major pre-holiday groom on both boys and also if Boris goes for surgery I want him looking his best (even though I know they will clip him) Thing is I don't know how to use a blaster. so if you use one or can point me to a video that would be great.

What kind of surgery is Boris having done? If nothing else, get ready for the shaved leg band :-)
Boris has a condition called OCD which affects his shoulder joints and is having keyhole surgery to remove lesions or flaps on the joint. It's complicated and pretty rare and we discovered it by observing that he was not putting full weight on his left leg about three weeks ago. It is in his left shoulder but may be in the right too and this will be checked too. He goes to the University Veterinary teaching hospital on Monday.
I did a big groom yesterday bath and clip on Boris and he looks gorgeous. The blaster was brilliant and I used it on Riley too after I brushed and combed him today. It gives a very professional finish to the job.
I hope the surgery goes well, without any complications, and Boris has a speedy recovery. I'd love to see a pic of both of them :)
I just stumbled upon this discussion as I'm seriously considering getting some grooming supplies and learning to give my boys a haircut. The only "device" I have at home is a hair dryer. It was my Christmas gift from a year ago. It has two speed settings, I call them "the wind" and "the hurricane" settings, LOL. It's amazing how fluffy the dogs get with this thing. I have not been able to make the boys completely dry, since they get a bit impatient after a while, but we are getting pretty close to that point. I'm not sure how to dry their heads since none of them like the wind on their head. But it's definitely a great help since a regular human hair dryer never worked for us.
Did you try taking the nozzle off and using just the hose on their heads close to the skin? maybe even some treats in the other hand to keep them still.
Thanks, I'll try taking the nozzle off. And yes, I use treats to keep them still.
The heads are the hardest bit. I put my hand over their eyes and turn it to the lowest setting. Mine has a dial that you turn and two heat settings. Oh and lots of treats though it's very tricky holding the blower and the dog and grabbing the treat at the same time LOL
