Finally!  Going to get a discussion started with good (and safe) dog treats!

As a reminder, any treats made from a company listed in our Recommended Foods list will work, so I am not going to list them here. Visit this link for those brands:  http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/recomme...

A natural progression of sorts.

oh I agree completely Karen. You are so right about the betrayal aspect.

nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Here's a new option that you'll like if you haven't seen it yet: http://www.orijen.ca/dog-food/freeze-dried-dog-treats/

I will look back on my BarkBoxes as I kept the cards saying what each one has in them and email the companies and get back to you. I actually just bought Zukes for the first time this week from the sale on pet flow and my dogs loved them. Very sad!
I give Sawyer treats from Zamzows, a local store. They emphasize natural/wholesome ingredients which are "good for the environment and everything in it". They produce everything locally. Sawyer loves their beef and potato treats as well as their smart biscuits. http://www.zamzows.com/pet/dogs/zamzows_family_of_dog_treats/. They also post lots of useful articles on their website. Does anyone else use a local company?

Kris, one of their treats, the Smart Biscuits, contains a very bad and potentially dangerous ingredient, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite, which is a synthetic form of vitamin K that has been linked to some pretty serious health issues. This ingredient is also in some of their dog foods as well.

None of the companies that we recommend uses this in any of their products, and the fact that this company uses it at all is a red flag. I can't endorse any company that uses this stuff in anything.

I would be careful with the company's products. You might also ask them where their ingredients come from; "made in the USA" doesn't mean sourced in the USA.

Some information on Menadione: http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=menadione)

Thank you, Karen! I'm glad I posted!
I am just glad we all have this site so we can see we have other options because some of the people on Facebook do not know what to do.

Some of the people on FB don't know what to do about anything, lol. The worst place in the world to get advice or information.

So true, lol. I did post the thing in a doodle face group page because I know there were a few people who were truly interested. Although I had a guy right me a very long paragraph on why I should hold out because companies do this all the time...sounds suspicious. I am sure they are affiliated with Purina. Really why do I bother, haha. It is like you said when I posted about the woman who tried to fight me about LA, they want to fight about everything!

Castor & Pollux Organix Dog Cookies (found in Whole Foods), Made in the USA all organic ingredients...  Are they OK?

http://www.castorpolluxpet.com/product/organix-organic-dog-cookies

I'm cautious about Castor & Pollux. They're owned by Merrick, which is a company we have some reservations about; not horrible, but there have been manufacturing issues.

I'm also leery because of their distribution. They seem to sell only through grocery and "big box" stores like PetSmart.

In my area, we have some privately owned "boutique" style pet supply stores, and some smaller franchise stores that only sell products sourced and made in North America. I often use them as a research tool, as they have done a lot of the work for me. None of these stores carry C & P products, even though some of them do carry Merrick. Whether this is because they can't get them, or because they choose not to stock them, I don't know. I'll try to find out.
