Tripe is hands down the worst smelling thing I've ever experienced in my life. I tried feeding a can of it once and never ever ever again as it literally made me vomit.

Well someone from the rescue gave me a free bag of stuff for Sam and my dogs. Including some green beef tripe treats (how can it be 'green'? actually I don't want to know...). Anyway, the dogs are going bonkers just by the smell of the bag. The product is made by Pet Kind and is made in the USA.

Does anyone feed this stinky stuff to their dogs? Is it recommended by Karen? Honestly we should develop a 'recommended by Karen' certification process for food companies. If they pass, they get a special stamp of approval to put on their products, just like fair trade products. lol. I would love to see the day.

Here's the link to the product: http://www.petkind.com/green-beef-tripe-treats

I agree, the canned stuff is truly gag-worthy.  When Gavin was not eating well, I would used canned tripe as a topper (reluctantly).  Thank goodness that stage is over.  p.s. I think it is green because the animal is grass fed :)

This product is sourced and made in North America and the company looks top-notch. So it definitely gets my "stamp of approval" in terms of safety and quality. The nutritional profile on these treats is also very good.

But nobody ever has to feed their dog anything that disgusts or repulses them.

All tripe starts out green, and you don't want to know why, lol. The tripe sold for human consumption is cleaned, bleached, and Dog knows what else to make it fit for well, human consumption, which also takes away the green color, so use your imagination as to what that color is from. The stink and the fact that the green stuff is only sold for dogs are clues.

So what's the bottom line? They are good treats and dogs love them, but dogs love lots of things. Totally up to you. They would be good "high value" treats for difficult training issues, or to tempt a dog to eat when absolutely necessary.

I wonder if these will work on Winston's squirrel chasing and skunk hunting hobbies. I will have to give it a go. Nothing else has worked yet.

Thanks! I might give it a go. They are not as bad smelling as the canned food.

Our dogs allll love green tripe.  Having been raised on a dairy, that smell reminds me of manure, so not too bad for me - but certainly not pleasant.  I've heard really good things about green tripe for the dogs, in particular the raw version - which smells less than the canned, or the treats - in my opinion.  :-)

Ha ha .. I had to chuckle when I read this. When I was in your neck of the woods - Ottawa last fall- I was checking out all the 'local ' pet stores. There was one store that had a sign on the door.. "Sorry about the smell, It's Tripe day". WTD?? So in I go - I had walked far to find it. Well, The smell almost BOWLED me over...Worse then any tripe I had smelled before - I grew up next to a pig farm and it was worse than anything I smelled there.

I chatted with the owner, and they get in a delivery every couple weeks which they repackage to provide raw tripe to customers- I guess they sell out. I have no idea how they hire staff to process it.  (I didn't get any).

Regarding the Pet Kind tripe- I have fed it to Chester- He loves it. For some the Beef Tripe- stinks way more then the Pet Kind Lamb or Pork Tripe. They look very different too, more strips and softer- easy to break. In case that is an easier to stomach (hee hee)  option.

what store was it? that is too funny. Next time you are here we should meet. :)

Sounds interesting. Picco doesn't eat store bought treats much. These look like something he might like. At least they don't have any "crap" in them.  And, I stay away from dog treats/foods that say "not for human consumption".

Maybe I should add Pet Kind to the treat list?

Absolutely, that would be great.

Dog's logic - If it's too stinky to eat, then roll in it!

I feed Jack Green Tripe every once in a great while, usually right before I know he is going to get a bath because it literally makes him stink. He loves it…. I don't mind the smell because I don't smell that good now that I have a trach in… We rotate sardines, tripe, anchovies as his top notch treats but they are few and far between.
