Hey Guys,
I've been staying very busy with our new baby (now 4 months old!!) and Brinkley so I haven't been on here much. Yesterday evening Brinkley was jumping into my SUV when he tripped. My mom didn't realize that she was standing on his leash so when he jumped forward he didn't go anywhere and did a faceplant onto the backseat. I discovered that he also must have hit his front paw and nails on the side panel. I noticed this after I saw him licking his outer toenail on his right foot. Part of his nail chipped and broke (it's still attached though) and it broke off below the quick. It's not really far down but enough to make it sore. Is there anything I need to do for him until it heals?
In other news, Brinkley has done so well with Baby Alex. He comes running to me when Alex cries almost has if he's telling me that Alex needs me. He sleeps at my feet everytime it's time for Alex to eat. He just wants to be close all the time. He's even seemed to get calmer in the past months.
Here's a few pcitures (and I'll add my disclaimer that we have never forced Alex upon Brinkley. We never place the baby on or near Brinkley. We let Brinkley come to us when he wants to. We never want to give Brinkley a reason to feel unsure or threatened... so these pictures all happened when Brinkley decided he wanted to come hang out.)

I am not a nail expert, but your baby is gorgeous. As is Brinkley. Sounds like you are giving Brinkley all the time and space he needs to adjust to the baby - and he looks pretty darn adjusted! And adorable!
Thanks!
Thanks!
I love these photos, especially the last one!! You have a beautiful baby and Doodle. Brinkley has done a marvelous job adjusting--he is a great big brother!!
Thank you! He's a good boy.
Hi Heather, I've missed you. It's wonderful to hear how well Brinkley is doing with the baby, and I just love the photos of your gorgeous boys! Alex is just beautiful, and trust me, I don't say that about all babies, lol!
My only concern with the nail would be that if it is still partially attached but broken below the quick, any movement might put pressure on it and be painful. I'm not sure, but I think I might trim it as much as possible without getting into the quick, and then maybe tape it so that it doesn't wiggle around and hurt him. (Actually, I would have the vet tech trim it, lol, but that's me)
I hope it heals soon!
Thank you so much! I love my boys, both furry and not!
That's my concern about the nail as well. I'll try to snap a picture tonight when I get home. And yeah, if it's getting trimmed, it won't be by me! I need a pro for that job!
The baby is adorable! I love that he just wants to be near you and the baby! I would think you will just have to let the nail heal on its own but then again what do I know lol!
Great pictures :)
Heather ~ I love your photos and your baby is so cute. Congratulations! So wonderful that Brinkley has adjusted to a new life in your home. I am with Karen on the toenail just so Brinkley does not get an infection. Looking forward to more photos of your new little one and Brinkley.
Elizabeth, I love the photos! They are precious. Alex is just about the cutest little guy ever! I am so glad Brinkley is being the perfect big brother making sure you are a good mommy and get to that baby when he cries... so cute!
Kona scraped a big part of his nail off on some coral and has been licking it for two days. I don't know what to do either. At least it is broken completely off. I'm debating going to the vet but may wait another day. We do worry about our boys... furry and not.
