I apologize if starting a whole thread seems obnoxious to anyone! I thought I would create a place where I could put my photos, and accompanying text every week, so people who are interested can follow the challenge in one convenient place.

This can also all be found on my blog, with other random posts added in.

Congrats, Camilla!  You've worked hard and are very deserving.

This week I have been thinking a lot about light. Not just how it relates to photography, but in general. I realized that I was taking fairly significant detours between classes so that I could walk in the warm sunshine rather than shade. Isn’t it amazing how much warmer you feel when you are in sunlight? I was also pondering the effect that natural light has on us – research has shown that people are happier and more productive when they are working in natural light.

Light can be beautiful and soft, it can be harsh and ugly, it can be moody, or cheerful. It has such a huge impact on our actions, our moods, and the way we see things. In my opinion, lighting is the single most important factor when it comes to photography. While I generally shoot in bright, natural light, it’s fun to mix things up and experiment with a darker, moodier type of light.

(for photographers: I placed Naomi in front of and to the side of a bright window, then underexposed the image so all you could see was her profile. My settings were f/2, 1/200 sec, ISO 400. The room I was shooting in was quite dark, if it had been lighter the shutter speed would have needed to be higher, and the ISO lower.)

I hope everyone had a great week!

This has such drama, Camilla. It really sets a mood.  Studies have shown that it is better for students to learn with natural light, but the newer schools in California are mostly without windows!
