I'm sure there are other discussions on this, but could not find one that talked about age where the ..umm...red rocket (pee-wee) makes an appearance? I think I saw a little glimpse today with Brooks..he's only 4 months old. I kinda freaked out but tried not to make a big deal about it..Mommy just wants her baby foreeeever..and this means he's getting older! Anyone else remember time frame when the red rocket makes an appearance? Should I expect this to happen more often? Yikes..this first time mommy is having a hard time!

I had two females who "humped"... poodles, both of them, unrelated, and both spayed at about 6 months old. They mostly did it on sofa pillows, that sort of thing, from time to time. Jackdoodle, on the other hand, has never done that.
The butt dragging can be that they feel a fullness in their anal glands, or that they feel like there is something back there that needs to be wiped off. (Yucky, I know!)

females hump as well- it's a dominance thing, not a sex thing :)

they drag their butts to "wipe" something off or if their anal glands are full and need expressing...

and i dont think there's a way to ensure u never see the red rocket...but i think there would be LESS of a chance if the male is neutered young, but then again there are tons of controversial issues that come with early neutering...

I am at a loss for words right now....I have not been able to get on DK for several days now, due to the holiday's and this morning I get on only to read first, Adinia's message about how to conduct ourselves here on DK...then the next thing i decide read is this thread....I can't tell you all how hard I am laughing right now...Jacquie's stuff...peeing my pants over!!! and Karen's comments to follow are priceless!!! you all are way too funny!!

This site is to promote the wonderful world of doodles..I pitty the poor soul that first logs on to inquire about doodles and reads this....RED ROCKETS, BUTT DRAGGIN, & HUMPING"....there is no person in their right mind that would ever consider owning a "MALE DOODLE" after reading this!! LMAO!!!

Now...as far as Tucker goes...(you all know i have to put my 2 cents in) I have only seen his lil' red rocket once and the timing being perfect...we got that gift on Christmas Eve....he just got excited that the lil' bugger just popped right out! I believe it shocked him as much as it did us....my dad told me to do something with him due to the fact that he was obsessed with licking it (gross, gross, gross) so I distracted him with a toy and then he went on to hump Izzy, but he has done that since the day we brought him home....I just laughed, what else could I do?? He is a male,and all males seem to do GROSS things!! ha ha ha

You know, I had never thought about the humping being a dominance thing, but now that you say it, Meredith, I am thinking of three different times that another male dog did it to Jack...three different dogs, each time on the other dog's home territory. I also saw it happen when I brought a male foster to his new home, where they had an older male. At the times, it seems so odd to me, but now it makes perfect sense.
Look at how much we learn here, even in the midst of uproarious silliness!

With my boy it was right away - even before 4 months for sure. I don't recall the date exactly...but I know it was very early. He just got neutered last week - at 6 months of age.

Max's Little Doodle hasn't made much of an appearance since he was fixed at 6 months old. When we did our first level of obedience training though we got to see all kinds of breeds' lipsticks. Very Attractive!!
