Toby is spoiled.  I admit this.  We have never gone away and left him at home, and he's 5.  He's a homebody, and just prefers to be here over anywhere else.  He is not a bold dog, and new surroundings freak him out sometimes.  Such as - my son got married this year, and he has laminate floors.  Toby will not walk on these floors.  He just sits on the mat at the back door and has gas because he's afraid to move......yikes.  :)

Anyway, this summer we are going away for 3 nights, and I have no idea what we will do with Toby.  Thoughts?

Try contacting Erin D'Arcy at D'Arcys Dog Training. She might know of someone that she can recommend. Erin does pet visiting, but can't stay overnight because she has a dog of her own, but I'm sure she would know someone.

Thanks, Stella!

You are welcome!

I agree with many of the others.  I have two doodles and I have a lady who is in her mid 50s come and stay over night.  She is pretty much here 24/7 unless she has to run and errand.  Initially, I had her come in a time or two just for an afternoon, so they would get to know her.  It would be nice if someone on DK had a referral.  Good Luck.

I would look for a student or a trusted friend to look after him in your home (and stay over night) for the three days.

You could also ask your breeder. Sometimes they will take one of their dogs back while their owners go away, or they might be able to recommend someone.
