Here is a link to a good article about exercise and  improving dog behavior.  It's a little long but good.

I love the idea of a treadmill for dogs and have only been able to try murphy on my daughters for a very short time. He is not a fan of running. What's ironic is one of the main reasons I wanted a big dog was so that he could run with me. He never liked it and still goes to hide behind DH when he sees the running shoes come out. So again, listening to what your dog is telling you ( as we discussed in the post on Swimming) is important too.
Bella on the other hand would run like Forest Gump and run with me all day if I could. We only run once a week now, not much but I do feel it is very healthy for them. Mine don't get a lot of daily exercise besides playing together and the 30 min the pet sitter throws the ball when she comes. I do feel guilty about that, but they don't seem to be any more or less crazy whether they run or walk or just play during the day. Maybe some just NEED more than others, like your Murphy, Jane.

Jane I wish I had a treadmill, this horrible cold is almost making me go to my mom's and having her let me put Max on hers.

I love running, can't wait until Crush is old enough to go with me. Right now my morning routine involves walking her, coming home, leaving her, going on my run, and coming home. I will save so much time and burn so much more of her energy when we can run together!
