A stray GSD followed me home one day when I was a child. She would lay on our front porch when I went inside for the night and remain there until I came out of the house in the morning. It was so strange. She followed me everywhere, even while riding my bike to ball practice. It was clear that her job was to be a guardian. After trying for a week to find her owners, we ended up giving her to a friend that lived on a farm.

I have lots of photos like that, we had GSD's for thirty years - they are everything that people say they are. Wonderful - and yes mine slept next to the kids, watched over grandbabies, tended tiny kittens, and hauled me up hills.  Our first one and last one would have taken anything for me - the last one proved to his professional trainer and breeder that love runs deep - they couldn't break him of thinking that I was his job - so be it, I became his job and he excelled at it. 

I was sooooo close to getting another one, oh how tempting it was. Looks like my little fella takes his Shepherd roots to heart, he is steadfast and sticks to me like glue.

Still - it's not the breed altogether - understanding goes a long way - with dogs and kids.

We've owned 3 Purebred GS dogs over the past 26 years before converting to the doodle dog. They are truly such loyal, gentle, sweet dogs and so smart. They can be labeled, like the pits. I do believe the environment they are raised in determines their personalities. Love wins everytime!
