Our Zoe had a big weekend, playing at doggie daycare for the first time for a couple hours Saturday and then a puppy class yesterday morning.  Lots of play with new and other dogs, in addition to her normal routine of walks.  Since Saturday morning, her stools have been a little loose.  Could this be caused from excitement/stress of the new situations?  She's seems fine otherwise-- happy, alert (when awake), wagging, appetite, etc.  She might be a little sleepier than usual still (she was wiped Sat night and Sunday night), or I may just be imagining that because I'm a little concerned.  She also had more treats than usual yesterday morning in her puppy class.

Based on other threads, I'm adding a little pumpkin to her food and white rice tonight.

Has anyone else encountered this type of stomach upset, presumably from excitement and/or more treats?  If the stool becomes diarrhea I will take her into the vet, but at what point should I be concerned if stools don't harden back up?

Thanks!

Every time Milo goes to doggy daycare, his first poop after he comes home is a little loose.  Its the excitement and loads of play that does it to him.

Thanks, SF1.  After Milo's first poop, things go back to normal though?  This has been 24 hours now and many poops later.

I don't think excitement and extra activity would be causing loose stools 48 hours later. Were the treats something she has had before, or something new?

If her digestion doesn't get back to normal by tomorrow, I'd ask the vet to run a fecal. Hope it's nothing.

Some of the treats were new.  I would guess that about 50% of her "treats" are just pieces of puppy kibble, but in the other 50% some were new treats.  Everything she has had so far is grain free, though maybe the new treats were too rich, or she just had too many.  Thanks Karen for always answering my questions!

I've seen some pretty junky treats used in puppy classes, full of wheat and unnamed animal fat. It's possible the treats didn't agree with her.

I supplied the treats for her, all of which are of good quality and grain/filler free.  She did get a couple of treats from other people.  Could that small amount cause this much upset?  As I type the question, I realize the answer is probably "yes!"

Actually, I wouldn't think a couple of treats would cause this much upset. But I'm stumped otherwise.

Maybe it is just overfeeding. When I do a lot of training with food rewards I try to adjust the food to account for the additional calories. Overfeeding can cause problems.

My Oliver gets "nervous poops" all the time when we go out.  Just ask Janie from Jaine Jack & Jilly.... every time Oliver comes in their back yard he has a big nervous runny poop !!  Sorry TMI...

I don't think anything about our doodles is thought of as TMI on DK--lol!

This is exactly what I was asking!  Agreed, no such thing as TMI.

Update: After some pumpkin for the last day in with her kibble, stools back to normal this morning.  I did drop off a fecal sample to be run at vet this morning to be extra careful.  She seems normal today, though definitely still sleepier.  Could this be related to teething (the sleepiness)?

I knew she was feeling better when she was back on pigeon patrol this morning on her walk at my work.

I appreciate everyone sharing your experiences and recommendations!  I'm sure I'll continue to have more questions!
