In our breeder contract were required to get nuvet vitamins and life's abundance food. I personally am not thrilled with that as it's $25 for an 8lb bag of iffy food. When I can get Fromm and Dr.Tims for a better price (and it's a better quality!). And the vitamins are $55...does anyone know if they're actually worth it? I haven't seen much talk about them...

Go to DogFoodAdvisor.com - they have all the info on all the dog foods out there and are rated by ingriedients and fillers etc. Just sayin - good to look at it all.

Actually Janet, and I do not really want to get into it to much because you can do a search about the website in the Food Group as well but DogFoodAdvisor.com is really not all that reliable. You can essentially do the same thing that you are doing on that website, in the store when comparing two bags of food. The website is somewhat out of date and does not have the new recipes that some companies have changed and they also do not take into account the sourcing and manufacturing, which is the most important when looking at dog food, well any food for that matter. So really the only good that website is  for is comparing ingredients and telling you what they mean! Although us at the Food Group have Karen for that, lol!

I stumbled upon that website and was appalled by what I was feeding my puppy.  The most appalling to me was the high price and clever marketing to disguise a product containing less that great quality ingredients.

She'll come to me on LA large breed puppy. I'll switch to Fromm(after the two weeks). The stupid vitamins are $60. It just makes me mad that I already sent a deposit in..from what I gather - you give a dog good food- you don't need vitamins unless an issue comes up. Hence why I'm going with Fromm and Dr. Tim's (both on dogfoodadvisor good lists!) ..I guess you live and learn!

Yes, if you are giving a dog a good balance meal and a premium dog food there really is no need for the vitamins. May I ask why you will also be giving Dr. Tims?

I did not sign a contract from my breeder to continue Life's Abundance.

We don't have to continue (other than the first 2 weeks) we just gave to purchase a bag and a bottle of these vitamins. I'll switch at the 2 week mark and I guess just keep giving the vitamins till gone.

I would just give the vitamins until they are gone because it is not going to hurt and you have to get them anyways so you might as well!

I agree with Brittney. I'm sorry you have to spend that money on something you don't need.

I had a deposit down on a doodle, but only after I placed the deposit did I see the stipulation that the guarantee was dependent on my continuing to purchase this food using the breeders code. If it was good food, I'd have no problem, but it's not. They also used the nuvet vitamins (which are not needed with good quality kibble)
I find this whole business disgusting. It's just to make money. They should care more about their puppies. Needless to say I forfeited that money.

just common sense you would keep your new pup on the same food  for a while before introducing any new food. personally we use fromms surf and turf and that is what my breeder uses. good food and good price.  i find it ridiculus that a breeder dictates what you feed your pup.  i also use nuvet vitamins lotus thinks its a treat.

Rebecca, what you chose to feed your dog is your choice! However, changing your puppy's food should be done gradually! Going from one dog food to another all at once can cause some digestive problems! I would recommend buying the bag of dog food and then gradually start combining it with the food you want for your puppy! Gradually wean her off her original food until she is on her new food 100%. This is just food for thought! Enjoy the new puppy!
