Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My Goldendoodle Archie just turned 1 yesterday and he has never really been much of a food guy.  He always ate twice a day (7-8am and 5:30-6pm).  In the last 2 or 3 months though we have dropped him down to once a day because he usually doesn't eat breakfast....I put the food in his bowl in the morning and he doesn't eat that until 3-4pm in the late afternoon or until he poops 2 or 3 times in the morning. Does anyone have a doodle like this? I've always found it strange he doesn't really enjoy his bowls of food.

We changed his food from puppy to 1+ last week if that makes any difference?  Also, he is eating the Science Diet small bites because he never seems to enjoy the regular sized bites.

No but there is a store locator on their website http://www.orijen.ca/where-to-buy/

Of course here comes my plug for chewy.com (you knew it was coming, didn't you Brittney??)

Buy it on chewy.com- no tax, free shipping at $49, wonderful customer service. They are the best. Ever.

Darn, thought I beat you too it, lol!

Which formula of the Orijen brand would you prefer for a 1yr old pup?

Thanks!

Sam

Sam- just a thought- Acana is made by the same company as Orijen (Champion pet foods) and the quality is considered to be extremely high as well, but it is a little bit less expensive than the Orijen formulas. Acana is a little "easier on the pocketbook". It is sold on Chewy.com as well

Thanks! You are awesome.  I am going to check them out.  Maybe I can look at Acana website and ask them for a sample?

I will do just that.

Nope, most big box stores will not have a quality food but me and Stephanie swear by Chewy.com! You can have it on auto ship and have free shipping! You may also be able to find it at a local pet supply store, if you go to their website you can look for a store near you in there store locator!

Kindred spirits. chewy reference and store locator.

Sam, you are thinking about brands when you should be thinking about formulas. For example, Blue Buffalo (brand) makes several dozen different formulas: Formulas with grains, grain-free formulas, limited ingredient formulas, etc. If one doesn;t work, try a different one. Try a different protein source. There is no need to switch brands; the brand isn't giving him the problem, it's the grain or low protein content or protein source or fiber content or fat percentage that isn't working.

In general, higher protein, lower carb, grain-free foods work best for dogs with loose stools.

Which formulas for which brands would your prefer?  This way I can walk into the store knowing exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks!

Sam

I can't really tell you, because I don't know what specific formulas your dog has eaten. :)

When you have time, come to TFG and we'll explore it with you.

What's TFG?  I am brand new (today) to all this :)

The Food Group here on DoodleKisses

Tons of great information there. Please join. There is a list of recommended brands as well. My boys are on Acana Grasslands, I usually have it shipped every months. Not cheap, but at least I know it's a quality food.

Also, when we have tummy issues, I keep a bag of Wellness Simple (lamb formula) handy. Wellness Simple can be bought at PetCo or Petsmart, but I've decided for online orders. No tax and free shipping, so the price is better than in a store.
