My breeder had my puppy on Life's Abundance (I now know better) but I have a 17 lb bag I'm working my way through. My pup has been with us 1.5 weeks, and I know not to change food until 2 weeks. I want to switch to Orijen. After next Satruday, can I start giving him a little Orijen and then mix the two together until he's on Orijen completely and the Life's Abundance is gone?

You don't want to mix foods for more than a week. They are way too different, the Orijen is much more nutrient dense and grain-free,  just figuring out the right amount of each in terms of calories will be challenging, and there's really no point. Either wait until the L.A. is almost gone, or bite the bullet and throw some of it away.

Hi Alissa! How did you switch from Life's Abundance to Orijen go?

We are in the same situation with breeder recommending Life's Abundance (however Ruby is 6 months).  She is perfectly healthy on it (good solid poops etc) but does not seem to like it at all.  And now that I've been on this food group I've learned it's not the best food anyhow.  So I'm getting ready to switch either to Orijen or maybe Blue Buffalo Wilderness.

Just wondering how your transition went?  I want to get Ruby on a food she actually likes and is healthy for her.  But worried about the transitioning period.

I'm sure the food is okay, just the whole idea of a dog food pyramid scheme rubs me wrong.  I would mix the two (maybe 75/25) and then move on down (50/50) and see how it goes.  I am actually going to change foods because my dogs do not seem to like Solid Gold which they have been eating their whole lives but started resisting last year.  Maybe a change in production?  Anyway, I am going to try something else, maybe Origen.
