Hi! I decided to put my five cents here on pet insurance. I know any question regarding pet insurance will have "yes, hurry and get one now!" responses almost exclusively on DK. I have one for Willow since she's several months old, but I haven't been able to claim once successfully. (You can read my posts on my page.) I'm probably keeping it because so many DKers say just one accident / illness and I'd be thankful. But at the same time, I keep wondering why is that I am the only one on the DK who isn't impressed with pet insurance? My vet is not as cheap as yours is, but she's wonderful, and I have trust in her that she'd run an honest business in every sense of the way. Pet insurance, on the other hand, has given us disappointments and frustration, and I wondered many times why I keep giving them business.
In sum, even after so much frustration with pet insurance, I can't tell you that you shouldn't get one. In theory, getting one is the right thing to do, I think. I thought may be you want to hear from someone who's not so sold on pet insurance, especially because you have such a low-cost vet.
oh my gosh I love the name , I hope you do get to go it's exciting and I learn very fast to enjoy every stage of Miss Bea being a puppy , I also learn not to sweat the small stuff , Miss Bea has been better for me than I could ever be for her ! Can't wait to see more Pic's of Farley :) As you can see I'm a newbie and posted two times on your page , Sorry I'll try to take one off ~
wow how nice of the breeder to offer the class , I drove 5 hours to pick up my labradoodle , her name is Miss Beasley and I held her most of the way home but also took a crate . I fed her inside her crate for the fist week, after she would go into the crate to get her food , i would shut the door and each time I would leave it a bit longer , I also had a rule that noone could speak to her while she was inside the crate, I wanted to keep it a calm place for her! She loves her crate and takes short 30 minute naps in it while I'm home and stays 5 hours while I'm working. when I get home I go open her door and don't say a word to her until she is at the back door and I say go potty ....then I make over her like crazy !!! Enjoy your doodle the pic is adorable , do you have a name yet ?
Hi Alissa ~ First of all, I am so sorry you recenty lost your Vizsla. I think it is so great you are researching before you actually make a decision whether this breed is for you. When you get a chance be sure to check out the groups section on the main page and join as many as you like. As a possible new puppy owner, I would suggest you join Puppy Madness and also the grooming group so you can get a feel for what is it like to have a doodle. Yes they are too cute, but only if their coats are cared for. They require quite a lot in the grooming area (and at the very least the coat needs to be brushed out every 3rd day). The puppy coat is fairly easy to care for, but at about 9 mos to a year, they go through a coat change where their adult coat is coming in. If they are non-shedding, that means daily brushing to get the puppy coat out and it can take several months for the mature coat to come in. At this time, they easily do mat and often even if you are diligently brushing. Even after their mature coat comes in they still require often brushing and then getting groomed about every 8 weeks.
I am glad you joined our group. Welcome to Doodle Kisses!
