Cally has come along way in her training and really has been a dream come true puppy, for the most part! My only issue that I have is that when ever someone opens our back door she bolts out. I do the sit and stay every time before we go out the door whether she is on the leash or not. But if someone is not paying attention or someone who comes to the door opens it (I have an open door policy with my neighbors) , she runs to my neighbors whose house backs up to our 4 acres. I feel it is a safety concern with her just running out the door to go to my neighbors to play with their dog. Does anyone have any advice on how to stop this? She will soon be getting trained for our electric fence but I want to be able to fix this problem. Am I doing something wrong? I did a search in the discussions but could not find anything, maybe I am not using the right wording?

Side note: We usually have her on a leash outside but sometimes let her off the leash and she never leaves our side then whether or not she sees the neighbors dog.

Great job Gavin too!

I wanted to give everyone a final update! Well, Cally is doing great and is now even respecting the yard boundaries and I have not even had the electric fence installed yet. I thought I would add the yard while I was working on boundary training and put some flags up of where I know the electric fence will go, She will not cross the flags and I have only given her a little tug on the leash and a firm eh eh when she tried. Getting the electric fence will now just allow her to be free in the yard and not have to be on a long line.  She still will not cross the front door or the back door with out permission, even if I leave it open when bringing things in. Of course in all this I am right (or someone) by her and always reinforcing, as I never want to set her up for failure! I really have enjoyed boundary training because it opens up so much for me, I can leave things on the floor, when working on grading papers or doing projects and not have to worry about a little stinker of a puppy walking in and walking all over my stuff.  I included the basement steps as well in the training.  Thanks everyone for the support and advice!

I am thrilled to hear this Brittney!!  Thank you so much for updating.  It really helps to know when advice works :)  The main thing that you have going for you though is your commitment and dedication.  That is the key to successful training.  Good job!
