I just paid $305 yesterday in the Washington DC metro area, so that seems high. My regular vet was around $300, but I received a cheaper price through a local spay/neuter organization that offers discounts with participating vets. My vets price did not include microchipping, but the $305 total reflects an increase over the base price because they also microchipped him at my request. Most pricing also varies with the weight of the dog..mine is 55 lbs. Look up the local animal rescue league on google and ask what they charge, and also google your county and "spay/neuter program" to see if you have any similar services.
I looked into Zeuterin shots which were substantially cheaper ($135), but my vet talked me out of it.
I'm home with my puppy today and he's recovering fine.
I'm not sure about standard prices where you are. But in Ontario that will be pretty much what I'm expecting to pay. I'll also be doing the microchip.
Just make sure the $500 is all inclusive (surgery, meds, pre op, post op, the collar of shame, etc) If there are more fees on top of the $500 then I think it's overpriced.
In Massachusetts it's around $400 for spay and the chip is $50 so it sounds pretty close to me. I should note that this is with my vet, I know the ASPCA will do it for less, maybe closer to $200
It seems high to me. I think the cost for this is closer to $400 at our vet if you don't purchase their annual pet plan, which we plan to do. That will bring the price down to $275.
