Can you recommend a kibble for an allergic 6.5 month old pup?

Georgia has allergies, as I mentioned in another post. My vet is pretty sure it's food allergies, since she scratches all over from the day I brought her home, and it hasn't changed with the weather except now she has some little bumps in certain areas.

I have been feeding her Orijen puppy. It has chicken, turkey, eggs and fish as the protein. So I've been advised to look for a food that doesn't have the same proteins, is grain free, and has as few protein sources and ingredients as possible.

I think she can probably switch to an adult food at this point without any serious issues.

I have been looking at all the foods in the recommended list. It's a bit of an overwhelming task and thought others might have ideas. Acana Lamb and apple looked good, but the protein content may be too low, also looking at the ranchlands or grasslands formulas but they contain several sources of protein.

Any recommendations?

Nancy, if possible, make a list of the formulas she has eaten in the past. You need a limited ingredient food that contains a protein she has not eaten on a regular basis. Possibly rabbit, pork, duck, venison. There are a lot of choices. Unfortunately, you are not going to find an LID formula that has as high a protein percentage as Orijen, that's just something you are going to have to live with. 

If lamb is a "novel protein for her, the Acana Singles Lamb/Apple formula may be a good choice. They are going to make all of the Acana Singles grain free this year, and are adding a Pork/Squash formula.

If you tell what proteins she has NOT eaten, I can give you some recommendations.

She started out on Iams puppy formula, which is mostly chicken, and goat's milk. I switched over to the Orijen puppy after that and she has been on that every since. She had a brief couple weeks where she was just eating boiled chicken and rice.

I do give her treats and have tried to put variety into her life with them. Chicken, lamb, bison, pork, salmon, beef, if it's available as a treat she's probably tried it. But they haven't been any single protein on a consistent basis.

She does have days or weeks when she is better or worse, but I don't notice a correlation that I can map it to.

The variety of treats are what is going to make this difficult. Otherwise, there would be a lot of options.

Has she had treats that contain duck? There are a few duck based LID formulas you could try as well.

She definitely hasn't had rabbit. She probably has had duck, but very little. And probably not much bison.
I will give one of those a try.

It is a concern for me too because I recently switched to Instinct Rabbit.  Karen, I value our opinion concerning this.  Charlie & Beau prefer Wellness Core and the kibble is a larger size. I am in the processing of switching to rabbit, but they are not too keen on it.  Maybe I should try the Acana singles.

Linda, why are you switching if they like the Core? Which Core formula were you feeding?

Karen ~ Beau came eating TOTW and I switched him to Wellness Core Original Formula Grain Free at 3 mos. because Charlie was eating Wellness.  From the time Beau came home from breeder he was itchy scratchy, but has never had hot spots or any skin irritation that the vet could see.  He has had ear issues (yeast, dark gunky stuff since he was 7 months old (off and on).  After 3 vet visits for ears, and evidence that he does lick his feet (because of the red fur between his toes is reddish in color which is a result of saliva on the hair - however, I have never seen him lick his feet).  the vet suggested we start him on RX food.  Since I do not want to use RX, I was trying to find a protein he had not had. Well Core is grain free, turkey & chicken meal based.  So a month ago, I transition to Instinct Rabbit.  They both love it, but this the first week, they have had rabbit only, therefore I do not know if there has been any benefits for Beau's ears.  When I saw the issue with rabbit being sourced with China, that just scares

Again, it is beyond unlikely that an 8 week old puppy would have food allergies. But there are probably other proteins that he has never eaten. Which TOTW formula was he eating? If you can list the proteins in the foods and treats he has had, we can probably find another option.

I am sure NV is doing everything they can to ensure the quality of the rabbit formula, but I still have concerns. I am going to call the company this week to find out if they are getting the rabbit itself from China, or if it is coming already processed as meal. The latter would be my biggest concern.

Yeast is omnipresent and keeping ears clean, and acidified is the answer. Not food IMHO.
