Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Spring is coming and with it the doorstep sales pitches for lawn care. I always say no to these as I can't justify spending the money and am worried about environmental/toxic factors. I do get a lot of weeds so wouldn't mind a pet friendly eco solution.  I saw this on Facebook today and instantly thought of F. ;-)

Dandelion Season ==>> NON-toxic Weed Killer Recipe ==>> Good to use in yards with Pets & Children roaming around!

Make sure to share this on your own page for future reference and to help inform and protect others. =^..^=

1/2 gallon of Apple Cider Vinegar
1/4 c table salt
1/2 tsp Dawn liquid dish soap

Mix above ingredients in a spray bottle.
Spray weeds thoroughly.

1/2 gallon for around $6.40
Works better than Round Up - kills weeds on 1st application.

The Dawn dish soap strips the weed of its protective oils so the vinegar can work with deadly force. Safe for use in yards used by children and pets!!

Has the universe finally found a legitimate use for ACV other than salad dressing?

I'm pretty sure any kind of vinegar will kill weeds. Doesn't have to be ACV. And I think the salt and the dish soap is overkill, but i could be wrong.

And thank you for not posting this in the main forum where people will come crawling out of the alternative universe with all kinds of handy uses for my favorite miracle cure, ACV

Karen...there are lots of things that ACV is good for, let me list them...............

Just fooling with you!!!! :))

Yes, Gail, please get this list going......LOL....don't forget...

1) Put on neck for ear infections :)

Ooooo...I haven't heard that one yet!!  :))

Wish my aunt who died at age 93 was still around....she said ACV was the key to her longevity.

I could have asked her to contribute to the list!  LOL

She might have lived to 100 without the ACV : )

ROFL, priceless!

Funny, F!!  You are probably correct!!  LOL

LOL, Laurie!

I could write a book about it....

I agree with Karen in part in that any vinegar should probably do. Maybe the dish soap, probably any brand would do here too, would help. I used vinegar last year and one application did not really kill the weeds. But hey, it is safe. As to the salt, not sure about that either. I usually dig weed like dandelions out since they are often in the middle of grass and it' shard not to spray the grass too. Glad for the suggestion and it's good to see you. I hope you are enjoying having a garden still : )

Yes, those dandelion taproots go very deep.

I would be enjoying having a garden but it is still buried in snow. :(  I can't wait for it all to melt.
