I got an email about unusual flowers. This one intrigued me. To me it looks like some kind of dogwood. Does anyone know this ? Sorry no prizes for this one.

Wow, I have never seen anything like that! Looks like ribbons!

Some kind of dogwood indeed, F!  Apparently it's called Magic Dogwood. How very cool is that?!

And I found this site which calls it Mexican Flowering Dogwood:

It's beautiful, whatever it is!

That is a really cool flower!  I wonder how that came about... Trying to think back to my entomology class from way back... I think petals like that are designed to push insects down so their bellies make contact with the pollen.

Awesome!

Bless you guys. I knew I could count on this group! In unity there is strength, just add the internet : )

Wow, it is a gorgeous plant. Do you have that growing in your garden?

Sadly no and three dubious seeds are at least $30. If I ever get one this could be my new business although it's borderline hardy here. Everyone wants one it seems.

My sister sent me an email of unusual flowers, some of which were not so unusual but this caught my eye : )

Wow! That plant has a gorgeous and unusual flower.

Yup, too bad you can' tubby it just now.

I love this dogwood too!  I wish it was available in small tree form instead of seeds.

Just an fyi for anyone that would like to try this.  I just emailed brigitta@eldonaccess.com (Eldon tropical in Ocala Florida).  They will have some available in the fall of 2014.  Sounds like first come, first serve.  Apparently it is in a 5" pot and is $24.00, plus shipping.  I

I emailed them too : ) I don't even know of this tree is really hardy here in northern NJ.
