Our ALD is on Trifexis.  However, she will be spending some time with our family in the midwest and we need to figure out the best tick prevention, since Trifexis only protects for fleas.  Can I give her frontline as well?  Or will that be too much with double flea preventative?  Or is there a Tick collar you'd recommend instead?  I'd love to find an effective tick collar and not have to give her any other meds.  Anyone used Preventic collar?

Thanks

In many parts of the Midwest, fleas are a much bigger problem than ticks. The Preventic collar is only for ticks, so even if it works well, you still need something for the fleas.

Thanks, Karen.  She is on Trifexis, which unless I'm misunderstanding, is a flea preventative in addition to being for heartworm and intestinal parasites.

Yes, it does say it is for fleas.
I did not like the wear rubber gloves when putting the collar on and some of the other precautions for humans such as not being diabetic etc. there are also precautions relating to some of the meds. Dogs might be on. I suppose you could ask the manufacturers about Frontline with Trifexis.

I am trying Seresto for fleas and ticks, it is a collar. I live in PA where there are a lot of ticks, so far I have not had a problem. I do know when she was on frontline I found 8 ticks on her head, they hadn't bit her, but they were crawling on her fur.

I am glad that someone posted the topic in regard to the tick preventatives....

I used to use "Vectra" we buy from the vet. Then someone recommended "Easy Defense" Flea and Tick tag, and was wondering how does this work and if it does work.... ( I read the discussion in the health group in regard to the similar product as well)

I live in PA, and we do hike a lot. I would like to find the effective and safe preventatives as well....

I just read how they say it works and it sounds like çomplete hokum to me.

" bio-energetic process and sealed in an electro-magnetic shielded envelope. When opened and placed on your pet, it uses your pet's own inherent energy to send out frequencies that repel pests. The process operates with quantum mechanic's refined frequencies, and is somewhat similar to the basic principles of homeopathy"

I didn't really understand this. It sounded like a bunch of Jiver Javer to me, you know?

If Jiver Javer is hokum I agree completely. Big words hiding pseudoscience.

This is that Shoo Tag nonsense, same thing. Hokum for sure.

Yeah, yeah, we used to have the battery-powered gopher beepers also and they drove the gophers away but my neighbors with hearing aides were repelled even more so.  It makes a high volume screeching sound.  I think you just have to come to the realization that the fleas, ticks, and worms (and the results) are worse than the medication and determine that you will use these meds on your pets.  I don't like it either, but do use them.

I don't touch the Frontline Plus although it is on their necks for a few days, and we don't use flea collars for the same reasons.   These insecticides go into your skin the same as they do to the dogs. And if you get past the topical medications, then you have to deal with internal medications.  Always something.
