Hi everyone,

Roo has thrown up twice this morning after eating his food. His poop was hard and normal and he's acting like his normal wild self. He started running around after taking a couple bites of his food. Do you think that could have caused him to throw up? A similar thing happened last night but he only threw up one or two pieces. This morning it was everything he ate.

I know they're not supposed to eat and then run around due to the risk of bloat. Should I try feeding him in his crate so he can't run around afte he ates?

Thank you!

Katie

It definitely could be from playing after eating. Having a dog that has gone through Bloat when I did everything to prevent it is truly a eye opener. My dogs at minimum are not allowed any rough housing or playing a half hour before a meal (sometimes an hour), and definitely non of that for at least an hour after eating. My dogs know the routine now. Our routine is they sit quietly playing with a toy or a chew before a meal and then after a meal they go outside to go the bathroom and then Rosey usually just likes to hang outside if the weather is okay or go to her bed and Cally goes to her crate with a toy. I no longer need to shut the crate door and sometimes she will lay on the floor but as long as they are quiet and relaxed they can pretty much do whatever they want.

I am no expert, but I have had dogs for over 20 years.  Personally, unless my pet stops eating/drinking and doesn't quite seem themselves, that is the only reason I would start to worry.   If your puppy seems otherwise okay, just keep an eye and if nothing else's changes, i wouldn't worry....

Hugo has had an upset stomach twice, once with vomitting.  We thought both times were due to over-feeding during the day, too many treats with training, etc.  The vet recommended a bland diet after vomitting - white rice and boiled chicken.  And gradually adding back regular kibble.   We try to not over-feed now.  Seems to be going ok.  You may want to call your vet just to confirm and they can put the incidents in his file to keep track.
