Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I know this is a generalization and there are exceptions to everything but why do poodle folks seem to have a strong dislike to doodles and their people? I've come across this sentiment when researching how to clip a poodle coat because Jake's hair is just so very poodle-like. It's not just breeders, it's even random people who have online signatures something to the effect of "absolutely no doodle in my poodle!" And "always a poodle, never a doodle". There seems to be a lot of animosity that abounds. I like poodles. I like labs, I like beagles and Aussies. Just because I wouldn't own a certain type of dog doesn't mean I want to bash those who like them. It's weird.

How awesome is that! Small world! Maybe we can meet up sometime when my copd allows it. Lol! :D ~ Lake Mohawk. :) Valley Forge  ...  are you talking Ohio?

Yep! As far as the smarts goes ... Lol! Reese opens the front door with a push latch ... I never taught him. He tries to open the other doors with a regular door knob with his mouth. And of all things .... this morning he opened his crate door! He is a Houdini! Lol!

I'm talking PA. Are you in OH ?

Yes ... I am in Ohio. We have the Malvern's mixed up! Lol!

I had no clue about this until I brought Daisy to the vet for the first time- the nurse was noticeably unfriendly towards Daisy!! I was so offended. She even made it a point to tell me that a lot of people dislike this breed but that Daisy was "cute" (geez, thanks). When I asked why she said that people don't like how much these "supposed" goldendoodle breeders are charging for mutts and that "real" breeders who spend their time and energy breeding poodles/goldens for health and temperament don't like that these dogs are then being used to crossbreed.

I think it's ridiculous. You don't see yorkipoos, puggles, or cockapoos catching this much heat! I think they are jealous of the bond we all share. :)

We went to an AKC dog show yesterday and as we'd stop to talk to different pure breed dog owners/breeders my 4 y.o. would volunteer that we have 2 big dogs at home.  The pure breedist would then ask 'what kind of dog?' and my 4 y.o. would proudly declare "labradoodles."  I slightly cringed and giggled inside thinking they were probably inwardly rolling their eyes.  Thankfully they never said anything rude to us.  And even more thankfully...we never got into a conversation with the poodle owners!

We were at a local dog bakery yesterday and ran into a couple with a black lab.  They complimented our beautiful "poodle" and how well behaved and friendly she was...  - My hubby was very quick to tell them that Luna is a goldendoodle - I cringed because I've experienced the doodle hate first hand when I've been out with Luna.  She is very light colored and I just had a "lion cut" done on her.  She is looking VERY poodlesque.  The couple was very nice and asked a ton of questions and fell in love w/ Luna, they are thinking of getting a goldendoodle after their black lab passes. (their lab is very sick w/ cancer and they were buying him all the fancy treats to make his last days special).  Very heartbreaking.

I think it's just the same reason people who do CrossFit scoff at those who are "only" runners and the same reason foodies look down their noses at the lines of people at Taco Bell.  Once you find something you are into (be it doodles or poodles) you think your way is the right way.  If you didn't think you were right, you'd head on over to Taco Bell (figuratively).

I don't know why people get so bent out of shape about most things in life though.
