I have lamented several times on DK about my difficulties in finding a good groomer for Sophie.  We tried a new one today for her summer cut.  I was pleased with the results. I feel she listened to my description and tried to accomplish it.  Plus the icing on the cake - the price - $65.  Very reasonable.  I really prefer Sophie's coat long and shaggy but the temps are heating up in KY and I want her to be comfy.  I have attached a before and after.  Please give us some honest feedback.  It will help me tweak the next cut.  The only area I don't like is her "bangs".  A little two "visor-ish" straight across. If anyone needs a groomer in the Lexington, Ky area I will share her info.

I'm not sure what size clippers she used - sorry.  I guess I will break out the thinning shears and try to tweak it myself a little.  I am very cautious with the scissors since I cut her tongue one time.  I know - CRAZY ACCIDENT.   I hate even admitting it and I was so shocked!  I was trimming around her mouth where the food gets yucky.  I had my hand over the side of her mouth holding the hair out to cut it beyond my fingers.  Somehow she licked around my hand just as I snipped.  It was horrible.  It bled forever.  I called the vet and he talked me down.  I felt awful.  Sorry - just had to 'fess up - I'm not a scissor master!  Thanks for the comments.  I appreciate your feedback.

Oh, how scary, Valerie! I do my own grooming and have yet to have a cutting accident, but when I'm cutting in places like around the mouth I fear sometimes that tongue will come out when I least expect it. Now I'll be extra careful for sure!

Finding a groomer you trust and whose work you like just takes time. I think Sophie looks good. She looks to have a bit of a 'bowl cut' head where the groomer didn't blend in the top head hair with the sides, but otherwise looks good. I'd keep the groomer and just ask to have that blended better next time. I think a lot of people like that visor look you refer to, and professional groomers tend to build it into the cut. My 2 have curly/wooly hair and my prof. groomer would try for a visor on them, but for me, it just didn't work. The effect it created was more a ridge of curls, or thick eyebrows. I leave it out in my grooms. I like it on Sophie, though.

Nice summer do- I would use thinning scissors to soften the helmet line a bit, as well.  I just bought a good pair on Amazon and managed to cut my finger!  The tongue episode must have been awful!  They are so quick!

Lori,
Which thinning shears did you get from amazon? Let me know if you really like them. I have some, and like the concept and they work okay, but they are cheap. I'd like a pair of sharper ones. Thanks!

I think she looks adorable!

Valarie, I love her cut, she looks beautiful and ready for the summer!   I like the cut over her eyes and wish my groomer would do the same.  Sophie you look fabulous!

Love her summer cut, she looks like she'll be nice and cool. :)

I think they did a GREAT job.

Very nice job!   Sophie is so adorable!

She looks great! I agree that the visor look is not my favorite, but that could be fixed easily and will grow quickly! I am building myself up to do a shorter cut for Ragley as temps are heating up her in middle TN as well. Love the shag, but her comfort is more important than my superficial preferences
