I was all set to go with Healthy Paws pet insurance until I saw that they don't cover the office visit. How much is a typical office visit charge? I'm guessing $100-$150?
Thanks!

This was the very reason that I didn't go with Healthy Paws. As an example the Specialist consult for Lucy's CCL surgery was $100, this would not be covered by Healthy Paws, but would be factored into the deductible for Pet Plan. So instead of being out my $200 deductible I would have been out $300. At my regular Vet the office visit isn't that much, maybe $30.
Take a look at this comparison, I had forgotten that Embrace offers a blanket coverage 'creme de la creme' (pricey) but here is some hard print to compare. I simply determined that some costs are just the cost of pets, in exchange for high premiums I am ok with taking care of the wellness portion - it does add up, all any of us can do is what we can do.
My vet office visit is 45.00. I chose PetPlan insurance when our puppy was 12 weeks old and I must say I am very glad that I did. Although office visits aren't covered, when she was six months old I came home from work to find her vomiting. Long story short, after X-rays she was found to have ingested a needle, finishing nail, or paper clip. She had to stay overnight on IVs in an emergency hospital and the total bill was 787.00. Pet plan promptly covered everything except my deductible and I was very pleased! She totally recovered by the way, in 24 hours!!
Our office visits for Libby are around $60.00. Her annual is around $110.00. Our insurance does not cover office visits. If x-rays, blood work or something else is added due to an injury or illness they cover some of it or all of it after our deductible has been applied.
I went with Healthy Paws a year ago and have been very pleased. Just had an "accident" and it's easy to submit claim right from an APP on my I-phone. Reimbursement on the way at 90% after 100.00 deductible. Lots of options...worth checking out. Good luck.. I know it can be very overwhelming to evaluate all of the insurance companies out there. Worth the effort.
