I took my 11 month old ALD to get groomed today for the first time...

Yep, you read that correctly. She's a rescue/rehome, we got her a week ago.

She's a curly coated girl and had never been groomed. Yikes!! The groomer just called me and gave me the option of combing her out, which will bruise her and take 2+ hours, or shave her and grow her coat out correctly. We're going for short now and hopefully growing her out nicely!

I'm so bummed! I love a longer coat doodle :( Our first doodle was a wavy fleece coat and looked gorgeous grown out.

I'll post pics of Sky when I pick her up!

Awe, poor Sky. You know though that she is going to feel so much better without the mats and without going through the comb out it would require. And if she's a curly girl you may find her coat much easier to maintain when it is kept shorter. Time will tell but you made the right decision for her and at least it's happening during warm weather!  Looking forward to the pics of her new "do".

Welcome to Sky! Before you know it, she'll have that longer coat.

Poor Sky. But it will grow and be lovely and healthy when it does.

Well, it certainly is short-short! But look at that sweet face and beautiful eyes! She is a gorgeous girl even with her new do!  Yep. you'll be running your fingers through her coat again in no time at all!  In the meantime, enjoy the break from brushing!

She looks wonderful, and how much more comfortable. Not having to brush her so much will help with her being new too>

Welcome Sky. You did the right thing and she'll be fluffy again before you know it :)

She is still quite a cutie! I'm sure she has to feel a whole lot better
She's adorable and probably just fine to have a short coat just in time for summer, it will grow out before you know it!
