Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Thanks everyone who joined Adina & I for the live dog training webinar!  A very special thanks to our trainer Doggy Dan for sharing so much good stuff.  Adina is off to put the kids to bed so I'll wrap this up.

What did you think?

Again, thank you!  We know it's not easy to free up an evening on a holiday weekend.  :-)

We're sorry we couldn't address every question you guys asked in chat.  You had some great questions and we just couldn't get to them all.

What I really like about Dan since getting to know him is that NOTHING is off limits.  He doesn't hold anything back and say "You have to subscribe to my website to get that answer."  Nope.  He will give you the best answer he possibly can every time.  And tonight he laid out his method.  As you saw, he is passionate about the transformations that take place in our dogs when WE are the pack leaders.  He has shown that the basis of solving every problem is being the pack leader and the trusting relationship with our dogs that comes from that.

I thought the content was killer.  The production values?  Not so much.  But I really don't care too much that Adina and I were in our garage (really!) and Dan was in his spare bedroom.  This was about answering your questions and giving you as much value as we possibly could.  I think we did that in spades.  Could we cover everything in an hour?  Nope.

And that's why Dan's video site is so helpful.  You can try it out for $1 and watch over 250 videos on all aspects of dog training.  Dan is a full time trainer and has run across most every problem you can imagine.  The best part is he has taped his interaction with these dogs and given us the solution to solve them for ourselves.

So check out his website.  He has given DK members a $1 trial and then $10 off.  This offer is only good until Wednesday night.  Thanks Dan!

I only watched the replay and, as much as I enjoyed Doggy Dan, I think HE is thrilled to have had an hour of free advertising and self promotion. It's not a bad thing, it's good business. He 'gave away' just enough of alluring advice to sell his service. It was like watching an infomercial. I mean no disrespect. I enjoyed the info and he did tempt me to pay to get the rest of the pieces of the puzzle. I think his style of dog whispering is awesome. I just think it's unfortunate that he can't just get sponsorship for his site or, drop his monthly rate to something nobody would think twice about, like 9.99. He is worldwide after all. I believe that if he dropped his subscription price he would become an international sensation!

Bravo!  Agreed

Great idea Holly!

I agree that even the positive comments were a distraction. Maybe you could have just the "private comment to the moderators" feature. That way, questions can be asked without disruption.

Thank you!  The webinar was a great idea and informative.  I have started the 3 step no-barking, "thank you"  plan for alerting me with Camus.  I am hoping it will work.

I listened to the 5 golden rules tonight and found them very interesting and potentially helpful.  The information about what to do when your dog barks at random noises was put to the test as I watched the videos.  Every time a dog barked on a video, Chance would run to a window and begin barking. Following the advice of Dan,  I responded by walking to the window, taking a look outside, saying "thank you" in a cheerful voice, and walking away.  Every time Chance stopped barking immediately, left the window, and returned to his bed next to my desk.

Thanks guys.  I pretty much echo everything else said here.  DH and I both watched and will be taking advantage of the $1 offer and making a further decision after reviewing that.  I for one learn more by watching than I do by reading.  I like to see examples of what someone is talking about, so I think the video format might work well for me.

Following these pack leader guidelines is going to be tough ... particularly the attention seeking one!

Sherri, this was something our trainer told us from the beginning, especially with Murph.  It was SO hard because he loved being close enough to actually lean into me.  It broke my heart to walk away.  My trainer, Karen and Adina helped me to think about it differently.  My trainer used to say that I needed to think about it as a person who got "in my face" or was always trying to touch me.....and I think it was Adina who told me to think of it as Murph trying to own me.  But it was really hard.  Now he almost never does this...he recognizes that it's my space unless I invite him.

I remember it so clearly. Adina told you to "hear" Murphy's touching you as his saying "I own you, Mama!" and your response should be "Um, no, Doggy, I own you." Brilliant.

I agree Sheri! I actually love how they greet me when Ive been away. Even for 10 minutes. Like Clark said, I see it as them saying "I love you, I love you" or "I've missed you soooo much". I guess I need to change my thinking but it will be tough.  I do see the need to get control over everything else.

Thanks so much for organizing this webinar.  I agree with the suggestion below that next time you should consider disabling the chat until you're ready to receive questions towards the end of the presentation.  For what it's worth, I did not find Dan's references to his Web site off-putting.  This is his bread and butter after all, and we were all there - voluntarily - for an informative free ride.  Anyone who thought there'd be no promotion of his business during the webinar doesn't live in the 21st century.

I definitely thought the webinar improved after the first 20 minutes or so when Dan started to go into a bit more detail about his methods.  I've already signed up for his Web site and have watched the videos related to feeding/food aggression.  I even made my husband watch the relevant sections with me - and we're going to try to implement Dan's feeding suggestions with Truffle in the hope that we'll be able to make even more headway with his resource guarding.

Thanks so much again for putting this together, Adina and Clark!
